Ahh, but Mac is the only company I can think of that calls me an idiot for not owning their product.

If they took the approach "we have all these fantastic selling point, here they are!" then that'd be fine. But they just have to throw the whole "by the way, you own a PC? you have, do and always will suck untill you buy one of our Macs".

Little wonder then, that I have no patience for them.
Are you kidding? I've lost count of the number of car commercials that do the exact same thing. Making you feel like an idiot for buying someone else's product has become a standard advertising tactic, as far as I can see.

What? All the car ads I see imply that somehow you'll go on sunset drives through scenic deserted roads, or that as soon as you step into the car, hot women will want to have sexual relations with your person and/or car.

Re: Is it just me or are the Mac vs. PC ads getting really obnoxious?
The fact is that Mac, if they continue on their current course will continue to dominate a tiny percent of the market, that tiny percent will consider everyone else as 'sheep', the large percentage of the market will think of Mac owners as 'Elitist'.

Thing is Microsoft's advertising far surpasses Macs, why is this?

Because Mac are saying 'If you're clever, you'll buy a Mac.'
MS are saying 'If you just want to be able to use a computer, buy a PC.'

Let's face it, a good 90% of computers in the world aren't being pushed to within 10% of their full abilities most of the time. People just want to be able to switch on and go, there always seems to be some fiddling around with drivers on a Mac before you start using things like Midi ports or Firewire. In the case of Midi ports, you seem to have to set them up every time you turn on the damn computer.

Experienced users can find MS's autoconfigure routines a pain in the arse, I'll freely admit, it drives me up the wall on occasion, but for a newer user, or someone who is working to a time limit, you want to do as little set-up as possible and just dive on in. MS usually wins hands down in that department.

That's one genre of car commercial. There's also the genre where two people have different cars, and through some stilted comparison of their features, the owner of the competitor's car comes to the disappointing yet comical realization that he/she has unknowingly settled for a lesser value. It's not just cars-- you can see it all over the place.

hot women will want to have sexual relations with your person and/or car.

Does that explain the great Tesco fuel crisis, then?

That commercial was surprisingly direct. >_>
Interestingly enough, this signature is none of the following:
A witty remark on whatever sad state of affairs the world may or may not be in
A series of localized forum in-jokes
A clever and self-referential comment on the nature of signatures themselves.

Or that you're unamerican if you don't buy their products.

Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.

Re: Is it just me or are the Mac vs. PC ads getting really obnoxious?
Macs once had a niche amongst the graphical community, now, they don't..

of course a lot of mac users reconcile themselves to be the 'top shelf' type, dispite most PC's being able to outperform most macs.

Re: Is it just me or are the Mac vs. PC ads getting really obnoxious?
Now I'll admit to recently getting one of the new Mac Books because it looks nice and does have, in its own bizzare way, right mouse clicking.

The first thing I did? Deleted the MacOS partition.

Biggest problem I had? The insistence that I needed a disk of XP with Service Pack 2 to install the OS as opposed to simply letting me use XP. Similarly the mac "boot camp" software which is so "easy to use" didn't send me the drivers so I had to download drivers from my main computer and send them over. Effectively they seemed to purposefully try to make the install as difficult as possible (let alone all of the bull**** on the website for this procedure screaming that "The PC world is dangerous... let us take all of your burdens... hallowed are the Ori...").

Now it's a fully working XP machine, and could use Vista if I ever had to. The only downside to it is the Intel video card, but at least it's honest about being crap instead of the mobile Nvidia or Radeon cards. I can play less resource intensive games such as FreeSpace, WoW, Galciv, and Sword of the Stars perfectly on it when I'm bored.

But the whole "PC v.s. Mac" thing is bull****. They *are* PCs, same hardware now. The only difference is the OS which while pretty is a piece of ****. The only reason there aren't that many Mac viruses is because... not too many users and real targets (unshaven college kids and yuppies don't count) don't use them.

Re: Is it just me or are the Mac vs. PC ads getting really obnoxious?
Actually the reason why virii/worms were not a big problem in Apple's history is because the CPU (IBM Power architecture) did not execute overflow from the page stack or buffer, which was the primary way virii and worms would be programmed.  Now that Apple uses Intel CPUs, all bets are off.  It is likely that there will be a (relative) surge of virii that affect Macintosh systems, and it will instill a much needed sobering experience.

Re: Is it just me or are the Mac vs. PC ads getting really obnoxious?
I do find myself almost wishing that virus creators would target Apple to make that point - that their machines are no more secure than anyone elses. I've no problem with companies making claims about their products if those claims hold water, but if the only arguement is "nobody has proven us wrong yet" - that's just not good enough.
