Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Do you have a CD/DVD/Whatnots disk drive(s)? If you have then make sure it/they has/have nothing in it/them and try again. Other thing you should try is to create fs_open.log file as described in http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.0.html & http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.msg1180359.html#msg1180359 (for instructions as to how to get it and how to post it).

I'll take a look at the code and check why that message is (still) being sent.

I did have a disc in the drive. Thanks for the pointers. I'll give it another shot this weekend. I uninstalled the game and will try again from step one.

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Not sure if I should put this here, but my launcher crashes whenever I select a build. It had been working fine for months. Anyone know what's going on?

Are you getting an error message of any kind?

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Are you using Windows 8/8.1 by chance? If so, have you tried using wxLauncher instead?

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
First time iv ran into this problem. Just got the updated build and all but I cant get it to go to full screen on any other build except 3_7_2_RC4_SSE. All the others open up in the upper left hand corner. I also cant change my resolution; should I reinstall FS0?  :banghead:
So it begines...

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Sorry for requesting information in here, but this forum is huge. I browsed stuff and didn't find if there are any visual improvements for Freespace 1. Thank you!

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Yes there is; you want FSPort. It's recommended to download it with the installer (requires Java)

And...

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Been out of the game for a while, but I'm trying to get back into it with the new installer and I've run into nothing but problems. I have Java, openAL, and the GOG version installed. I downloaded the FSO installer and extracted it, but I cant find any type of executable file to open the installer. Can someone help me get moving on this?

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
The file you need to run is FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar.

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Yeah, if you've got Java installed you should be able to just double-click on the installer you downloaded.

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
I downloaded java directly from their website, but I can't open the.jar file. I also went through my java folder looking for some kind of executable in there to try and run it that way but nothing really makes sense to me. Any direction you can point me in? Thanks.

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Huh. You downloaded this guy, just clicked the big red button? It should be as easy as clicking on the .jar...

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Yup that's exactly what I got.

If you right-click FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar and select "Open with..." do you see an option to open it with Java(TM) Platform SE Binary?

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
Yes, but when I do that I get a brief flash of a smaller window opening which immediately disappears and nothing happens. I'm wondering if it's a Windows 10 issue.....

Re: Having problems with FreeSpace?
I've been having the same problem. However, I don't have this "Java(TM) Platform SE Binary".

Yeah, if you do that, I'm pretty sure windows is just gonna run "java.exe FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar", while it should be running "java.exe -jar FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar" to run the jar.

Anyway, from the sound of it your java install didn't configure itself properly. You can try launching the installer directly from the command line prompt, running java -jar on the installer, although I don't have time to write detailled instructions on how to do so right now, sorry :(
