I hadn't heard from her in more than 2 years when I first tried to add her as a friend, and what happened just now came several months after that. And 'shooting me down' makes it sound like I'm after something I'm not.

Well, I'd say trying to contact her after she'd blocked you counted as at least walking after her after she said no. My advice is just not to do it next time and let it go.
