Trying to find a name for a particular sort of armor, basically a forearm guard. Closest wikipedia comes is a Roman manica, but that's segmented and covers three sides, which works for another character but not this one. Not a vambrace, only covers the upper surface of the arm.

Strictly speaking, a Bracer is a piece of leather protection used by a Bowman to protect against his own weapon hitting him on release

I used one when I used to do Archery.

Whilst a vambrace only covers the upper forearm in standard definitions, it's one of those names that applied to a full forearm guard later on and can apply to both, so it's probably the closest you'll get unless you use something like Lower Cannon, but that conjours up the idea of some kind of Steampunk Mech, which, whilst awesome on several levels, probably isn't what you are looking for

Edit: In truth, Vambrace is more commonly known as the full-arm protector according to Wikipedia. So a Semi-Vambrace might be an acceptable term, but as I understand it, Vambraces were around in 'Semi' form before modern steel armour with the full carapace was invented. - Edited after you posted :/

Yeah, wikipedia gives "Lower Cannon" as archaic for "vambrace" anyways, but it describes vambrace as offering full for at least three-surface protection, I'm looking for one.

I think I'm going to end up with bracer. Or I'll just copy the Roman term.

Oddly enough bracer is probably the right description, except that it was worn on the inside of the arm rather than the outside by archers, and only on the non-draw arm. The RPG concept of them being like wristbands is the one that winds me up

We worked on kata tonight at Kendo, afterwards we went and saw Captain America. Overall I thought it was pretty cool, not a Dark Knight mind but pretty damn good besides. Actually I think an extra half hour would have been worthwhile since they had to cram a ton of stuff into the ending which made it really "busy." Chris Evans, Haley Atwell and Tommy Lee Jones all did a great job. My major gripes would be Red Skull not being really well developed and Hydra in general. Lets face it, Nazis make great villains, they've got snappy uniforms, intimidating accents and lots of cutting edge tech, especially the stuff that didn't make it off the drawing board. I really didn't need leather clad space men with laser guns and armored vehicles more advanced then a Stryker. They constantly broke immersion for me and looked comical in general. Panzer Grenadiers with a smattering of some "what if" tech would have done it a lot more justice instead of the hyper advanced Hydra that was presented.

Still, overall I found it quite enjoyable. Next week I think we'll make a run at Cowboys & Aliens, which I think is either going to be the best thing ever of a complete train wreck.

I used to live in Maspeth. Last time I visited I was out by Coney Island. If I move there again, it definitely needs to be near the subway and spend minimal time commuting. Not minimal possible, but minimal affordable. I've seen the new BoA tower. I've gotta picture of it from the ESB.

meh. last week it was 42 C and i spent hours crawling around the unventilated bowls of an aircraft carrier.

A couple actually...

The first one is that alien probes (both normal and jamming types) don't appear when engaged, so research uploads get set back until the probe expires.
The second is that pirate bases don't appear so I keep on having to put up with their **** with no way to end it.
And the third is that the alien bases don't appear when my ships engage, thus preventing the ability to win.

The strange thing is though, is that all of these actually show up when doing skirmish instead of campaign when they're needed.
