Finally managed to get that stupid "Vista Home Security 2012" virus off my computer last night. By downloading a registry file from the internet on a (hopefully) safe computer away from home and adding it to my computer, I was able to begin executing programs again. I booted to safe mode and the virus did not execute this time. Previously, the virus loaded even when I booted in safe mode. After attempting to run System Restore several times, it finally loaded. I traveled back in time to yesterday and then ran a full virus scan.
Jeremiah came over here yesterday. We've been trying to forward my ports for months but with no success. His parents (he still lives in a cabin separate from their house. He's 21. I guess he just likes the free internet) recently downgraded to the same internet that we have, so their internet "totally blows" now. On the bright side, he had to figure out how to port forward with pretty much the same modem/router setup as we have. So it should be easy to do it again at my place right?
Wrong.
It took him from like 6:00 pm to nearly 3:00 am to figure it out. A few hours after he began...
"I don't understand! I'm configuring this using the same process as when I configured it at my house and it works there!"
a few hours later...
"o my god wat the **** is this ****!?"
a few hours later...
"i'm gonna go outside and smoke a cigarette"
a few hours later...
"I don't think it's the modem. I think your computer is just being a total *****."
You get the picture. no matter what he did, uTorrent said the port was closed. port forward checker said Hamachi's port was also closed.
Eventually, he connected the modem to his laptop and configured it on his computer. uTorrent said the port was open. He forwarded the port for Hamachi and checked it with the port forward checker. That one was open too. But when he connected the modem back to my computer, both ports were closed. I believed he disabled a bunch of programs that ran on startup, and that was how he eventually got the ports to be open. We don't know which one was screwing us over but it's fixed now.
While he was over here I finally managed to get USB Loader GX to work.... somehow. All I know is I screwed around with the cIOS's some more. But I don't think I could do it over again even if my life depended on it.
