Hmmm, well I'm not one to judge without being informed so I'll take your word on its quality at a later date.
Well, I've played enough of it by now to know that they are definitely not making light of disabilities. In fact, one of the major initial conflicts is the protagonist coming to terms with having cardiac arrythmia, as well as having uncertainties on how to interact with disabled people, like not knowing who to focus on when speaking with a deaf-mute and her interpreter, and being confused as to what the rules of etiquette are on either ignoring or acknowledging a person's handicap. Other characters range from being totally adjusted to their handicaps ("Check me out, I'm the fastest girl on no legs!") to having issues with it (Hanako being so terminally withdrawn and shy due to her burn scarring).
I read up on the project and it turns out that a number of medical professionals assisted with the writing and the creators did some research into this stuff, to make sure they were getting the details right.
Also, Rin is hilarious. Definitely doing her route next, just to see what other bizarre things she has to say.

She's also the only person I've ever seen that does
facepalms with her foot (facesole?).
