Oh dear, not good. This is my first real time getting in trouble at work. Well, I don't know if I'm actually in trouble yet, but this could be bad...
I spent all last week looking for someone to switch shifts with me at work (I wanted this Saturday off). Well, I found someone to work for me on Tuesday, which was my last day working before my big three day break. I talked to the person and told them that we both needed to call our manager to confirm this (she also had the next three days off).
Well I called my manager the next day and spoke with her and unfortunately, she turned down my request. Oh well, no biggie, I was just hoping to see a friend who I don't get to hang out with too often, but we can (hopefully) do that a different time. Well, I didn't have the phone number to the girl who I was supposed to work for me, so I couldn't tell her that it was canceled. I figured that since she said that she was going to call our manager, our manager would simply decline the request.
Well, I just received a phone call this morning from my manager, saying that the girl who said she was going to work for me never called her and thinks that she is still working for me (I work this evening, she worked in the morning, so if she did work for me, it would have been a double). Apparently everything is my fault, because I didn't contact the girl and tell her that our boss said "no." But the only reason I didn't, is because she said that she was going to call her a few hours after I did, a promise that she broke. I was under the impression that she called our boss (like she said she would) and asked her for permission (the permission of both people is needed before switching shifts).
Now I'm probably going to be the one to take the heat for this. I admit, I probably should have made more of an effort to get in touch with the girl, even if she did forget to hold up her end of the bargain. I'm a pretty good worker and this is my first time ever really getting in trouble, so I don't think I'll be written up or fired or anything. I am worried that she might cut my hours though, that does seem to be her preferred method of punishment.
I really don't think I've done anything wrong though. I mean, I could have called work and tried to find out the girl's number to call her, but if she held up her end of the deal, there would have been no need. I think that the girl dropped the ball on this one by forgetting...
