Re: W-H-I-Y-L It's over (omg the cats)
Thinking about buying a gaming keyboard and mouse.  Any recommendations that aren't obscenely expensive?

Perixx MX-2000 (also being sold as the Sharkoon Draconia, although you pay more for a fancy sticker with that one) has all the features you'd possibly want (Extremely high DPI optical sensor! 10 reprogrammable buttons!) for, like, 30 euros.

When I think "Gaming keyboard" I immeaditely think "Mechanical Keyboard". Unfortunately, those are expensive.

Or US$30, apparently, if this is the right one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2J20T19299

Good reviews on Newegg, too.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L It's over (omg the cats)
im giving ubuntu another try. needless to say i was so impressed with how quickly it installed and booted im once again considering taking the linux plunge.

now its time for linux driver hell, which is slightly less annoying these days. the machine still wont reboot or shut down right but i think my video drivers work. my mouse wheel on the other hand doesnt. my wireless nic is also not presant, but it cant get no signal anyways and i may just younk it. as a lab computer it can jack right into the router if the kitten didnt pull the plug again.

also gonna try out the x64 version of ksp. yay!

i keep being tempted to try linux installs but i fear I am not computer literate enough for it (although I am the computer geek in my office, that doesn't say much for my colleagues  :nervous: ) and i am not sure about trying to hunt down and install all the drivers for my laptop and if it will work right. Having never seen a linux install I am unsure whether the UI would be good for me (I see a lot of people who talk about Linux installs talking about code level type and command line type stuff :shaking: scary!! anyone recommend a linux install for a newbie (or noob if thats how you want to class me lol)?

the only thing i had to use the command line for so far was to bring up the firefox profile manager, to load my profile. there was a nice little gui utility that let me find my video drivers, after that ksp ran fine. they've improved it a lot since i used it last. its almost usable as a primary os now. if i can get photoshop and max to run in wine then im set.

i still need to deal with a few annoyances and glitches. unfortunately it being linux, i will probibly need to use hack fu on the command line. im pretty sure the shut down problem is due to a service failing to terminate. but i dont remember how to manage linux services.

i got better things to do than push new thread titles. like figuring out how many magnatrons i need to ignite a bathtub full of lithium-6.

So WHIYL is now like one of those designer-branded off-the-street counterfeits? :eek2:

My latest attempt at making a redneck forge has failed due to massive heat loss incurred by weather.  :banghead:

Going to try to fire up the hole-in-the-ground forge and use that to warm up to black heat, hopefully, and then use the MAPP/Oxy torch to raise it further.

Of course it *would* help if I was doing this on a warm windless day, but there's no point in yelling at the wind.

reading accelerando.

This is probably just a small snippet I'm reading at the moment, the whole book might be boring, but it's going so hilarious and fun.
