Dead drive

The whole computer just hung itself while playing a game; a quick push-button later, and it no longer shows itself on POST. There's no horrible clicking noises that suggest head stack or platter mayhem, so I think something electrical just died (I hope), since the whole drive's been cold and silent since death. And I have no idea how to revive it, this is out of my league.

It's still under warranty, but the problem is the data. Don't feel easy with RMA or data recovery services, but the only other option is shipping things back and forth and playing with the PCB and the drive's own flash ROM. And that has its own implications / danger / cost.

(the above paragraphs understate the anxiety)
I suppose to the casual observer, this will be a classic case of drilling the idea of "data backup"... *sighs* No more bickering around with the shps and tbm's and pew pew pew and +Corkscrew and whatever for a long while
