Major assignment due for university class in eight hours.

I haven't started yet.

Let's do this.

Edit: And the entire class was just given an extension until next Friday.

Received award thingy and a navy coin for some unspecified good deed at work.  Seriously, my boss that gave it to me couldn't really tell me what it was for other than generally "good job supporting," and I can' recall doing anything particularly noteworthy.  In fact I thought things were kinda going to hell around me.  I'm pretty sure I also hold the project record for being (more often than not indirectly) involved in the most officially written up problems.

Also received my qualification plaque from a year ago.  Said boss started a slow clap.  Then I called him gay and went home.  Because I'm on third shift and it was turnover time.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
So about a year ago the wife's Compaq laptop stopped booting - no splash screen, no beeps, not even the screen backlight coming on at all.  I eventually noticed that the LEDs next to Caps Lock and Num Lock were flashing, so I thought maybe they were trying to tell me something.  After some research, I found that it was telling me "CPU not functional."  So after some additional research about compatibility, I got a new CPU, upgrading from the Sempron M120 to a Turion II Ultra M600 in the process.  After tearing the whole thing down to get at the CPU and correctly putting it back together, I got the same result.  Disgusted, I put it aside, planning to eventually remove the hard drive and sell what was left for parts.

So today, I finally got around to preparing the Ebay listing.  First I tried powering it up again, to confirm which code it was flashing, but this time it indicated "BIOS corruption failure".  Huh.  So I followed the steps to recover the BIOS from the EFI partition, but now the lights just flashed continuously.  Giving up again, I opened the bottom cover to see how much RAM was installed, and I saw that the upper stick was not fully seated.  Huh (again).  I seated it fully, then tried again, but now it was back to the CPU code.  On a whim, I removed it completely and holy $#!+, it booted!  It ran horribly slow with only 2 GB, and I wasn't sure if it was a fluke that it even booted, so I backed up everything before doing anything else. Then I started swapping sticks from another laptop being parted out, and eventually got it to boot reliably with one of the original 2 GB sticks and a 1 GB stick from the other laptop.

I'd still like to get another 2 GB stick, but right now the wife is just happy that she has a functioning laptop again, so I am happy, too.
Maybe someday God will give you a little pink toaster of your own.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
Had a dream that FS2 had some additional ridiculously-awesome character-based cutscenes and missions, one of which involved a Sathanas tearing up an entire fleet, another being on a primarily-Vasudan planet where a Sathanas was looming over the horizon (that part legit scared the **** out of me).  There was also something about helping clear rubble on said planet after the attack, with one of those fun shooting-the-**** scenes with other pilots.  That's about all I can remember, but it was one of those dreams where you wind up totally bummed after you figure out it wasn't real.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
Confirmed the problem is in fact the connector and not the cord by causing a nice little pop and arc inside my laptop.  Power was definitely making it that far.  Now until I find a new one that isn't ****, I get single runs on the battery while having to balance/wedge the cord in a very exact position to recharge between uses.  Will try to break it open even further later, saw hints on the interwebz that there might be a screw I can tighten down that you have to take the mainboard out to access.  In the meantime, starting backups and cursory searches for decent laptops.

Anyone bought one recently that isn't crap?  Hell at this point I might even take one with windows 8 on it.

A good friend of mine has started a retro gaming review channel. I think he's not doing a bad job and if you're interested in some silly fun you can check his channel out here: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCKqG2xr13D1m4AZzgfqrBLA

Register at the techspot.com forums, and post a new thread in the Virus and Malware Removal forum.  They have helped me several times, and pointed me to tools that I never would have found on my own (or wouldn't have known what to do with them anyway).  Good luck!!

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
I think I got it.  I'm almost positive the stuff is actually gone, but the entry in add/remove programs remains.  It used to throw an error when trying to uninstall it, now it does absolutely nothing after having been nuked by several malware programs.  I think I can use CCleaner to get rid of that entry now, and a registry scan should get rid of any traces of it there if all the files and processes have in fact been killed.  The locations identified for the particular program via google are empty.

I've used the Major Geeks malware forum before.  Their people and the tools they built took care of it easily.  But you absolutely MUST follow their detailed, customized directions for you.  Their tools are not for you to use on your own.
