Yes. Really good hobbie.

Right now I pretty much pull my stuff out of my garage to work. I had a decent shop at my old place, but haven't built one at my new house. Gonna build a nice one soon though.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
What do you use as an anvil, and what's your forge set up look like?

I saw some plans for a forge that used a double-well kitchen sink, one well as the fire pit and the other as quenching trough. Interesting bit about it was that it used a shop vac as the air source.

For an anvil, I use an anvil. :)

I fabricated my own forge out of steel plate and tubing and my blower is a 1900s or so hand crank. There are a ton of ways to make a forge, I've got one I made out of a brake drum and a small steel table. The next one will be made out of rock.

There are advantages and disadvantages to electric blowers and it goes with the smith on which he would prefer.

Well duh, lol. I mean like what weight, style (Austrian, Peddinghouse, etc.), and material (iron, steel, hammer forged steel)  it's made out of.

Neat, although I'm a bit leery about the rock since they have a tendency to shatter.

Gotcha, I was thinking of you were asking about an anvil, or railroad track, ect. I have two anvils, a Hay Budden and a Peter Wright. Both are wrought iron body with welded steel face. They weigh 80lbs and 117lb.

The forge I will build will only be rock from the ground up. Then it will have a flat top layer of firebrick with a thick cast iron firepot in the center. So the rock will be shielded from heat.

I am back. A little. Maybe.

Finished classes, looking for an internship to wrap up my diploma... None of the places I go to pick me. Getting really stressed, I should have started two weeks ago; I have spoken with the people in charge of the internship and I still have time, sort of.

But my biggest issue comes from gender identity and lead to people I trusted abandoning or becoming apathetic towards me.

Life is ****.

But at least there is FreeSpace. :D

Cool! What kind of things do you forge?

Today's llama drama? New glasses. The cinch? People hounding me to hurry and get my license again, though I've been having a hell of a time adjusting to the new pair.

Going to tell them to shove it - new glasses are a literal headache and need some time to readjust. Ever drive with nasty headaches or strained eyes? No thank you, pleez.

Ouch. I was driving by the time I got my glasses, and I know exactly what you mean- it was hard to walk while adjusting, much less drive.

What up, people? It's December, and that means that, like Michael Bublé, my hibernation is at a temporary end.

Just called a company about a charger that failed out of the box.  Said charger was sold with a flashlight that has a lifetime "no hassle" warranty.  I was told the warranty didn't include the charger (which is kindof required to make the thing work more than once) and I'd have to buy a new one.  Tried to sell it to me right there on the phone.  I hung up.  Harshly worded email sent.
