Maybe a threat or warning?

Unpaid leave from work for the last couple days. Rain has flooded the first floor of the building and the electrical system is shot.

No computers, no work gets done.

San Diego. It turned into paid leave today by order of someone further up in management, though I was honestly bored enough I went down there and helped move some sandbags to help keep the building dry.

We've gotten less rain than the Cumbria thing, but this city is not designed to cope with rain. 5 inches in two days is enough to more or less usher in the apocalypse, and we're on day three and 7 so far. The good news is the town is too hilly to actually flood for the most part. The bad news is people who live in the canyons or Fashion Valley are screwed.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
I'm in a similar boat here.
My work has been on short hours the past couple weeks because not many people have been coming in over the holidays, so we haven't bothered being open in the mornings, and with no need for morning staff everyone's had the number of days they work cut, though slightly longer days when they DO work.  Then this week comes along and we keep being closed due to rain.

I don't get paid time off, so not working sucks for my bottom line, but more than that, I am starting to get bored.  Living in a desert, I normally don't say this, but go away rain (at least Phoenix is designed to handle heavy seasonal downpour since it's fairly normal to get most of the year's rain over only a few weeks).

Not sure what you do, but if you are flsa exempt and you show up they have to pay you. I don't even think they can force you to take paid leave if that happens. My office loses power every once in a while and everyone sticks around working on jigsaw puzzles just for this reason.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
Job talk, eh? I just got laid off yesterday, the project I've been on for the past few months is in a new phase and there was a reduction in force. I'm glad I saved up enough to get me to the next job, but it means I don't have extra funds for car repairs now. I'll have to do it myself.

My position hasn't been exempt since the 2004 revision, and since I work for Navy Federal Credit Union, we are both interstate and more-than-500k a year anyways.

It's not actually paid leave, I'm using a simplified explanation; it's more like they've decided to count the day as though we worked normally. This isn't the first time environmental conditions have locked us out of the building for a day awhile and this solution has been employed; it even has a special name that's escaping me at the moment. Last time it was somebody mixing 55 gallon drums of ammonia and bleach while preparing to clean the building.

Rumor has it the company created this particular pay-them-anyways exemption after an office in Spain (if there is a USN permanent duty station, there is usually a Navy Federal office; NAVSTA Rota) was blown up by the Basques during the '70s.

I got to use the phrase "metaphysically inimical" twice in conversation today.

I used "to no avail" in my logs at work last night.  Hoping for the snowpocalypse today as it's the only hope I have for not working 13 days straight.

I have started using the phrase "Literally Rozhestvensky." for people who fail basic requirements of the game and/or reading comprehension on the WoWS forums.

You are 10% cooler if you understand the reference.
