Re: W-H-I-Y-L - informaaa, a licky boom boom doooooown
I finally ordered some major upgrade components for my PC; I've been running a Core 2 Duo and 4 GB DDR3 since before Windows 7 came out.  I ordered an i5-6600K, MSI Z170 SLI motherboard, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler.

Maybe when my SSD is running with a 6 Gb/s interface instead of a 1.5 it will wake up and i will see why people are so impressed with them.  Other than booting faster, my system hasn't felt any different since installing an SSD.

Next step is to start saving for a new GPU to replace my 480GTX.
Maybe someday God will give you a little pink toaster of your own.

Just bought the wife a Vauxhall van for converting to a dog show vehicle. / camper.  It means I get to justify a new lot of power tools to facilitate her approved designs. Whoop.

Mine has always run at 6 gb/s, and this has been my experience with it.  Boot time is the only discernible difference.

Boot time, program installation, things like your weekly anti-virus scan, pretty much everything that requires prolonged sequential HDD access goes by in a flash.  It's physically painful for me to go back to a machine booting off an HDD at this point.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - informaaa, a licky boom boom doooooown
Program installation was limited by CD read or download speed.  Once either of those two tasks are done, if the installing program is of sufficient size to be a noticeable unpacking/file copying time, it's likely going onto a HDD data drive anyway.  And since I still have data drives, minimal speed increase in AV scanning.  My load times for any programs I can think of were already pretty much lighting fast.  I never have time to read the flavor text/hints on loading screens in game (which is actually kind of annoying sometimes when some stupid game designers put important information ONLY here).  Maybe firefox was sped up opening.  Thinking about it now, I remember a time when it used to take 5-10 seconds to open.  But I have no idea if that was due to the HDD or just an older, crappier version.

Three

THREE is the number of trained, educated electricians that I have personally worked with in the past 11 months who believe that the earth is flat, or at least that the shape of the earth is not round.

three

It's not like they have no mind for science or math. Electrical theory and trigonometry are huge parts of the curriculum, and they'd obviously passed those sections to graduate. So as not to be rude, I've tried very hard to listen with an open mind, and discuss things logically, but it hurts to hear these proofs they're using. I'm watching a video on Youtube right now, and literally experiencing physical pain (not figuratively-literal, LITERAL).

as someone who has had to clean up after "trained, educated electricians" many, many times before, this does not surprise me in the least

!!!

As far as I know, I've never met an adult who believed that the earth was flat. Maybe you're the victim of a prank, or maybe they meant that the Earth is not perfectly spherical?

The first I met was possibly messing with me, though he did sound sincere and never revealed a prank... And no, they don't mean that the earth is an oblate spheroid instead of a perfect sphere :(

But I have since watched a couple hours of live feed from the ISS and hugged my cat, so I'm feeling much better now.

Just saw a news article about North Korea launching their first video streaming service, which goes by the name of...Manbang.

You cannot make this up.

(and yes apparently it's just the Korean word for "everything" but come on let the world have this)

Ah so apparently, the only critic I've seen so far that was able to understand The Begginer's Guide was Errant Signal. That's funny, for I had thought about him all the while playing the game as the typical personification of the villain of the game. Apparently, so did him, and kudos to him for it. Although his last promise, I have yet to see any remnants of it actually perspiring, rather than merely acting in a mirrored way to the game so as to wink wink to the audience that yes, he did get it.
