Re: *UPDATED May 17th* BP2:WiH P1 Voice Acting Call
I recorded my lines on a camera (the best microphone I have) which save files as .AVIs, how do I convert them to .OGGs? I've googled around for converters, but all the ones I've seen seem to require payment, don't work, or don't support a video to audio conversion. I can't just send them to you for you to work out becuase bp201cb03.AVI (for example) is 104 MB; 5 times the attatchment limit.

Re: *UPDATED May 17th* BP2:WiH P1 Voice Acting Call
If Audacity can open them it can save them as .oggs, but I don't know if it can.

"(directory)" is a video file.
Audacity cannot currently open this type of file.
You need to extract the audio to a supported format, such as .WAV or .AIFF.

Re: *UPDATED May 17th* BP2:WiH P1 Voice Acting Call
Try avidemux or virtual dub, then if you can't get a save as .ogg into the program, you can at least save as .wav and convert to .ogg using Audacity. I think Avidemux can save audio as vorbis. :)

VLC also seems to have some sort of conversion thing, but it seems to save as .ps, so maybe not so useful.

I haven't really tried using this ogg format, as it isn't as compatible, despite having better quality. There's bound to be some "avi to ogg convertors" on Google...

Absolutely, just focus on the roles not yet cast in the first post.

Re: *UPDATED May 17th* BP2:WiH P1 Voice Acting Call
Well, I got a pirated AVS Audio Converter to convert them, but (1), it's pirated (which I really don't think you want blemishing your awesome mod), and (2) it cuts off everything after the last second (unless VLC player does that; not the converter. I wish my codecs for WMP worked...).

Can't get Avidemux to do it. It can save the audio of the .AVI, but as a "file"; no file extension at all. I have no idea what format it is, and VLC can't play it.

The VirtualDub I downloaded (hmm... you just extract the archive; not install it. Is that right?) can't play the .AVI file ("The decompression codec cannot decompress to an RGB format. This is very unusual. Check that any "Force YUY2" options are not enabled in the codec's properties"). It can export the "raw audio" as a .bin (which VLC doesn't seem to be able to play, not sure whether it's the format or the file) or .mp3 (which has been said to result in a decrease in quality which we don't want).

ImToo did the same thing as AVS, but it's shareware so as long as I don't have to record a line over 3 minutes...

I have googled ogg to avi converter, they all require a payment, or have a shareware version which has restrictions I either see or have to find out after installing the things.

Ah, interesting there...

Get the latest version of Audacity, which means the Beta version. It will be 1.3.13 or greater, I believe. Get the FFmpeg and Lame codec libraries for the program as well. Make sure you get Audacity from SourceForge ONLY; innumerable sites will offer downloads for the same software but will attempt to tack on their own gimmicks onto it. Between both of the codec libraries, you ought to be able to extract the audio. If all else fails, enable your sound card as an input device, using Audacity to record the sound while you play the .avi on something like WMP. If all else fails, you might see if you can convert the .avi to audio only with Real Player.

Re: *UPDATED May 17th* BP2:WiH P1 Voice Acting Call
Thanks
For a moment I just googled LAME rather than looking for it in the Audacity website and I was all "What sort of computer literacy does he think I have?! I don't know how to compile a source code!". But I worked it out pretty quick (what I was meant to do, not compiling).
Works perfectly, if a little manual heavy (can't just select the files I want and hit convert; have to go through each one). I'll just have to convert the clips I want to submit rather than the whole lot.

With regards to AviDemux, select .wav as the output format, then "save audio" and include the extension in the filename, so if you have an AVI called 'voice',

open it in AviDemux,
select wav in the "audio format" section on the left.
Go to the "audio" drop-down menu, select 'save audio".
Enter filename as "voice.wav"

At least you will be able to open it in Audacity, as I don't know how well the vorbis thing works in AviDemux. You could also try goldwave for batch process converting of wav to ogg (If Audacity doesn't batch convert); is shareware, but if you only use it for converting, you won't go over the limit fast.

- VLC: yes, it does seem to not play the last second of files, so if you have a 1 second file, it basically doesn't play! Have a look in Audacity to see if the wave-form is complete if you want conformation.

Also, I haven't tried this yet, but this may be useful for batch conversion to .wav files from your avi's.

Off-topic here for a second, is there any advantage Goldwave has over Audacity?

You can reset the GW command counter via regedit for versions up to around 5.12. Otherwise just use sparingly and install a different version if the newest one runs out (they might have gotten to smart for that too...)

Re: *UPDATED May 17th* BP2:WiH P1 Voice Acting Call
Hey hey~
First time poster, long time player here. I finished AoA a few days ago, and I'm a ways into WiH now. I have to say that I'm much impressed. Very high quality voice acting, there is. So, I decided to come on here to see how WiH voices are coming along.

Well.
I was thinking that I might as well try to help out too. So, that being said, I was considering sending in some recordings for "Ensign Enabram Kassim". However, I do have a few questions:

-Is it possible to send in lines for more than one character? If I don't do one well, another person might be better.

-Other than a flat-out "these lines are no good", will I receive feedback on the quality of my work?

-Any suggestions in general?
