Dropped things generally have a tendency to last five minutes when the chunk is loaded. If the chunk is not loaded, it'll stay there indefinitely until such time as someone loads it and resumes the counter

I'm not surprised to see some villagers there, given the number of rooms that qualify for villager occupation in that structure.  That interior shot is pretty insane, though.  I think fire might be a workable solution.

First, swap the villager and cat models to make the comparison extra-appropriate.

Yep, provided that certain criteria involving the amount of "houses" is met.  Grimper or the wiki would be able to explain it far better.

In short, villager breeding is based on the number of doors. However if a villager is forced away from a village via falling off a cliff or something  (the shape of that building would suggest villagers would gradually migrate to the bottom) then the "village" will produce another villager to replace it, leading to massive overpopulation.

It happens naturally as well when an NPC village is generated next to a ravine. Villagers fall into ravine and detach from the village, village produces more, and you end up with a mass of villagers stuck in a ravine.

Hallways, stairs, and T section samples, for quick replacement of already built sections of hallway that are too heavily modified to put back by hand. Everything that gets put in the Deimos is built outside it, then moved in. Important or repetitive bits are saved on the side, just in case.

Not too hard, I make a backup every few weeks or so.
