Id be willing to donate $50 if it meant the game would get done sooner.

I don't think it would help much. Developing games is big business and you have to remember we can't even make a profit on the game due to the SCP licence.

Donating it to help keep HLP running isn't a bad idea though.

Here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56782.0 is the list of what you can do to get Diaspora done sooner.
Keep in mind, this mod has really high standards, so you'd have to learn one (or more) of these things really well.

Darn you.Why did you use my pre edited post?

Its just that all of Europe uses the metric system so I put 2 and 2 together and figured all European countries must use decimals.I also hope you dont use commas in the game when showing ship damage.
In Soviet Finland (and perhaps other countries as well), people put a whitespace after a punctuation mark when another sentence follows.

Example: I am writing sentences<PUNCTUATION MARK><WHITESPACE>This is another sentence<PUNCTUATION MARK>

Or in another format: I am writing sentences. This is another sentence.

Not entirely accurate - the UK still uses the Imperial system for certain applications, even though the EEC rabidly tries to stamp it out, and the whole of the EU use the Imperial system rather than metric for aviation and shipping navigation purposes.  In fact, EU countries weather reports for aviation even use a mix of the systems, reporting wind speeds and cloud bases in Imperial but visibility in metric.  Russia uses a complete metric system and the US use a complete Imperial system, so it is the EU who again have the most illogical, muddled and clumsy solution due to petty minded bureaucrats and politicians...

  • The sky is the limit.
the whole of the EU use the Imperial system rather than metric for aviation and shipping navigation purposes.
It does not.
What is used is a third, "nautical" system, similar to Imperial, but not identical.
It's used because it's tailored to match with geographical coordinates, 1 nautical mile = 1 minute of latitude on the equator (off by about 12 meters, but it's not important in navigation).
Same with (much less known) nautical feet (one second of latitude on the equator), which are also used in aviation. And knots = nautical miles per hour.
This system is simply practical for navigation (especially for working with charts) and does borrow names from the Imperial system, because it evolved from it.
I don't know why visiblity is given in meters, but most likely because pilots "think" in meters in everyday life and it's easier to imagine how far you'll be able to see if the value isgiven in meters. There, convinence when working with charts in not a factor.

And... doesn't the whole world use that system, while we are at it?

For values of "whole world" that do not include the parts that are not using said system, yes.

The EU uses feet for altitude measurement and met reports of cloud base, so it's critical for navigation with different airfields having different elevations,, obstacles and terrain, separation from other aircraft  and the layering of airspace .    As for pilots thinking in metres, that'd only apply to those raised on the continent and the youngest of the Brits - the older Brits still think in feet and yards and have to convert the met readings or runway distances.   The eastern Europeans use metres/second for wind reports, though, not knots.

As for knots and the definition of a nautical mile, I know what they are, thanks.  They're only used in air navigation because they were used in maritime navigation, just like so many other maritime conventions carried over into aviation, and are now used because they're what has always been used and there is little reason to change it; the relationship between one minute of latitude and 1nm is not of much benefit really.

You obviously had to calculate something using a real nav chart. Using miles makes geometry a lot easier.
Maritime convensions have been carried over to aviation, since both of them have to navigate large distances and have much more in common than most people think.
Also, "people raised on continent" is most of Europe population, last time I checked, so for majority of pilots, distances in meters are convinent.
On the side note, I don't think that Diaspora forum is a place for such conversations.

Defined as the time the solar system takes to complete one circle around the galactic core. which is something like 225 to 250 million years.
