Important Message Follows:

In the last half hour I've come across something of an annoying (potentially) dangerous worm. This sends itself via email in the users name - when the reciever opens the mail it sends itself to everyone on that persons list and so on... in this manner it's spread extremely rapidly and I've already had two people reporting recieving it from me.

So far no effects have been found apart from its rapid spreading. I'm working with Hunter to see if we can find out exactly what effects (if any) there are - so far nothings been found.

If anyone recieves an email with the title "Hey", treat it with extreme caution. This thing appears to come from trusted friends which is how I fell for it in the first place.... best thing to do is to check with the person you recieved it from before opening or deleting it. That way genuine emails can be separated from this worm email.

The contents of the email are as follows:
Quote
hey.. how are you?

just wanted to tell you about this site: http://www.blueillusion.net/index.php .. check it out!

Do NOT click the link above.

I'll keep you updated of developments. If anyone has any information on it please PM me.

Update 01:
Hunter has tried re-booting his system after recieving the worm and there doesn't seem to be any problems so far.

I assume you're using Outlook Express...?

Make a blank entry in your address book, with the name "0000" (those are zeros). Don't give it an email address.

What happens is that most of these viruses mail themselves to the first X amount of people in your address book. With this dummy entry, your email will not be sent, as it will pop-up a message complaining that the entry doesn't have an email address. That should warn you enough so that you can do a comprehensive virus scan. :)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I sence a disturbance in the Force.  j/k

No seriously, this is a very dangerous threat. I recieved an e-mail from Central Command that there were some new virus outbreaks. I will find the e-mail and  post it here. There are loads of links with information about those viruses.

Anyway, let's hope that we will find out something soon.

[Attempts to click link and, in a hilarious but indescribable Three Stooges-style mishap, ends up repeatedly pressing his own navel with the mouse cord wrapped around his neck.]

What if someone doesnt see the "do not click the abouve link"?

And even if they do, its like the big red button, labeled "DO NOT TOUCH".  Quite similar to zeronets father ted bit.

No mr mouse, dont click, dont click!!!! Ahhhh!!

After seeing the warning, I did a nice LiveUpdate for my copy of Norton, so I'm alright.

Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman
