useful Windoze program: kill processes with ctrl+alt+F4
Just came across this little program, and it seems to help a lot with killing games that have crashed or stalled so hard that I can't even bring up task manager. Alt+F4 sends a signal to a process to terminate, like "end task" in task manager, which won't do much of anything to most games once they've crashed. This will kill the process immediately regardless of what state it's in, for instance the Crysis 1.1 save bug which I'm grappling with right now.

Meh. Get the Sysinternals Process Explorer, install as replacement for task manager. Which can kill processes just as effectively.

i miss the good ol days when all the processes a computer was running fit on one page, at the default window size with no scrolling. i used to pride myself for running with as few processes as i could get away with, those days are over. i hate to throw more software at the theres too much ****ing software problem.

yeah this isn't about the "too much software problem" at all really- it's for stalled programs which is gonna happen on any platform.

I don't use Proc Exp (I totally should) so forgive my ignorance, but can it kill processes automatically using a keyboard shortcut? Because that's what this is for really, those times when a program is hung up so badly that your PC can't even spare the time to bring up task manager (or it does, but the current program is stealing focus or hiding it) and Alt+F4 just won't cut it.

I should really consider running this.  I can't count how many times a game has stubbornly refused to yield its window focus and let me see the task manager.

I really need to get this, since FSO loves crashing in a way that makes this necessary. >.>
