How about we add some context to vaguely vague post?

What's a RingEdge or RingWide?

A cursory Google search reveals that it's some Sega thing.

The RingEdge and RingWide are Sega's most recent Arcade systems. They have next generation hardware and network support. Right now they're only in J-Pan-Land. I only know of one game for them though:

BORDER BREAK

A cursory Google search reveals that it's some Sega thing.

A quick search indicates they're arcade systems made by Sega, although I have no idea what his interest in them is.

They have next generation hardware and network support.

You are kidding, right? Have you actually checked the specs?

Gigabit ethernet has been around since the last century and the graphics cards they use were already old when the systems were announced. Or are you refering to something else when you say hardware and network support?

No. But the gameplay video looked like it had GFX a lot better than a 360.

And I wasn't say the network support was next generation. I was just saying the arcade system had network support. To my knowledge, previous Sega arcade machines have not had network support.

The Xbox 360 has even older hardware... I mean, it's like 4 years older than both arcade systems.

See why I was greatly impressed at the time?

Let me put it this way, Crysis was released in 2007, two whole years before both of those systems were even announced. It seems to be graphically superior to Border Break, and yet both of those systems would have difficulty running it.

Re: You think we'll ever see a RingEdge or a RingWide in North America?
To get back to the original question, most likely no, because for all intents and purposes, the arcade is (unfortunately) just about dead in the US, outside of the random machine or two at movie theaters and such.  Japan has a far more active arcade scene, so that's why you see this sort of hardware being exclusive to there.

I think anyone taking that even remotely serious is a complete asshat.

I also think this discussion does not serve any purpose.
