Games that elude you. We're here to help
Not the first time I've made a thread inquiring about a game, and since you guys helped me with the previous inquiry (which was Cyberia) I've come again to challenge you to yet another puzzling thing that's been bugging the hell out of me for a couple weeks now

I had the game on my Windows 95 computer, or the one prior to that which I don't recall the OS (ran a floppy disc game called F15 Strike Eagle)

Anyhow: Essentially, the game had you in control of what could be best described as a bumper car. You were a blue bumper car up against what appeared to be several other bumper cars. You're placed in a 3D environment with naturally, 2D enemies and powerups. The objective was I believe to obtain the red flag and return it to your own, while picking up walls which could be placed behind you, and other various things which helped you against these red... bumper cars.

That's all I can summon currently, although I do have a recollection of three levels somewhat. One was a dungeon type area, which had an area with a floating platform you could boost yourself up to using the jump powerup thingy. Sometimes a flag would be up there. Another was a bluish level, while another had a ramp in the middle of nowhere for what appeared to be no particular reason.

Hopefully that's enough to get some sort of answer, but if you've still got questions about it I'll do my best to answer them

Re: The Game's name escapes me
Ninja'd. However, will link this anyways.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hover!

Microsoft's FTP link for the game (on the wikipedia page)
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/deskapps/games/public/AAS/Hover.EXE

EDIT:
It's on the Windows 95 install disc as well, amongst the other extras (couple of music videos and such)

EDIT2: And unlike most other 3D games Microsoft had their hands in, it runs on every Windows OS from 95 & NT 3.51 and up.

Oh man, I loved Hover!  I don't even know how many hours I sunk into it on our old Gateway 2000.  The MIDI music always felt like it came straight out of Descent.

The awesome that stems from their posts in this thread is directly due to my asking the question
Therefore I am spreading my awesome through their posts

But sadly that's not true...

Re: The Game's name escapes me
I've had memories of this game randomly pop into my head ever since I went to my first computer show so many years ago. I could never find it and no one had any clue based on my descriptions. Huge thanks to deathfun for describing it well enough and everyone who answered!

EDIT: And Hover! works 100% on Win7 64-bit with no compatibility options at all, awesome!

In return, another old game that eluded me for years and years was Outpost.

One that I still draw a blank on was another game made by Sierra. Only parts I rememeber was on the opening scenes when the Sierra logo came up, a fuzzball thing droped down in a bucket and said "Sierra", and the game itself was you were a stick figure trying to get from one point of a map to another via ladders and platforms while trying to avoid the other stick figures.

Jumpman (C64)
That little red stick figure. Sorta like Pitfall and Donky Kong. Jumpman had to go up and down ladders and ropes; avoid the enemies; and collect little things along the way. There was also Jumpman Jr. The only change was the size of Jumpman and the game was just a little more challenging.

I googled your description and lo and behold

EDIT: Actually, you know what? I'll make this thread about games that elude you

Heh, no, I'm quite sure Jumpman isn't what I talking about. None of it looks familiar, though the basic concept is close. I'm also very certain about Sierra being involved.

Also, sorry for hijacking the thread, its just yours was solved and others were chiming in. Got my hopes up.

Re: The Game's name escapes me (and games that elude you)
Ah ok I have one.

There was this airplane game on the NES that was kinda like After Burner in that you piloted a Jet plane from a 3rd person POV (behind the plane), but it was crappier in graphical quality - the color of the plane tended to change to be similar to the background.  I do not think it tilted the view like After Burner did.  Apparently there were boss fights against large planes.  I had this game when I was little, like from when I was born (my parents bought this NES a while before I was born and I still have it now).

When I went to the used game store I looked at a cart for Top Gun and lo and behold, that cart looked EXTREMELY familiar, but Top Gun's POV is from within the cockpit, which is not what this game was.

And I have absolutely no idea what it could possibly be.

Haha, no need to apologize myte. Figured it'd be a good idea, afterall, everyone has that game which name eludes them
I'll keep looking for yours, albeit it doesn't sound familiar

Also, would it be Captain Skyhawk that you're talking about Enzo?

There's also Starforce

Re: Games that elude you. We're here to help
Not at all, no, and no, but I have played and love those last two titles.

The reason I mentioned After Burner is because it plays similarly to it.  There is another game that I think is called Sky Shark or something along the lines of that which has a similar feel, but Sky Shark is a WWII game.  This one put you in the seat of (well, behind, technically) a jet plane, like After Burner.

Re: Games that elude you. We're here to help
As a random side note, I realized shortly after I found this place that one of those games I couldn't name years ago was FS1  :nervous:

My cousin had a copy years ago and I was going to borrow it and forgot it at his house. Never saw it again. The part I remember most clearly was him flying a Valkyrie on a mission.
