It's the second page and people still don't know why exactly this thread exists.

Or at least, I don't...

I don't know why this exists either, but I'm posting it regardless.

I think we could use a feelgood thread at this point. (Please don't let this degenerate into a thread of stupid .gifs, these are just things that make me smile)

I don't really think anything other than GIFs and youtube links can come out of this.

Good opportunity to live test the embed ability though. :D

Re: dont think about bad furture
I've thought about that before, a feel-good thread, but one for feel-good stories. I just haven't had anything appropriate to kick it off.

I wish there was a feel-good news channel, where they only report on nice things. HLP mirrors the news in a lot of ways with mostly only serious/heavy/"bad news" topics.

Re: dont think about bad furture
Feel-good news doesn't make money because feel-good news is predictable and vastly un-stimulating compared to depressing and stressful ones.

Predictable? It doesn't have to be predictable if they cover a wide base of interesting subjects.

I get turned off if I watch the news long enough. It's not "stimulating" for me at all.

Re: dont think about bad furture
Frankly I find both sad/stressing/serious news just as boring and therefore predictable as other news, so I tend avoid it all together unless it's a political debate (and even then only temporarily).
Call me a cynic.

But honestly, just think about it: Good/happy news will almost always be stuff like "girl found after 2 decades of missing" or "unemployment at all time low" or some stuff like that. There's a reason why best-selling movies are ones with "thrilling" or stimulating action themes with great adversity and darkness, and why the big happy celebration at the end "if there is one" doesn't last nearly as long as the struggle and conflict.
Fun while it lasted.

Re: dont think about bad furture
we shouldnt think about bad furture; but what about thinking about bad furniture?
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Re: dont think about bad furture
But a movie isn't real.

And what's wrong with  "girl found after 2 decades of missing" or "unemployment at all time low"?

I want to feel good about our human race. Ideally, news would be balanced, but instead, it makes the human race look like scum and makes out we (UK) live in some ****hole, when we live in one of the best countries to live in in the World. I want to celebrate the glory of the human race. I want to see people working to eradicate disease, I want to see heroes, I want to see courage, I want to see the human spirit, I want to see the kindness of strangers, I want to see into the lives of people who make the World a better place. I want to see great people talk, inspirational people with inspirational stories. I want to see projects that are going to make a difference to people's lives, I want to see philanthropy. I want to see people helping each other through hard times. I want people to see there's good in the World.

Re: dont think about bad furture
Doesn't matter if it's real or not. A great deal of what the news tells you isn't real anyway and that's aside from the sensationalism; more in the direction of the skewing of details and facts based on shoddy studies that are difficult to generalize.

They both occur on the media and on a screen. For all the average viewer is concerned, there isn't any difference other than the fact that they are told the news is real and that movies are not.

I've only got your word for that. I'm not saying it's wrong, but for me, any reality TV or retelling of a true story is treated completely differently to fiction. Fiction for instance I may root for a compelling villain (yes, I know that villain is ultimately going down, but still), but never if it was real. I might want a fictional serial killer for instance to elude the police and carry on killing because I like where it's taking the story, like seing it test the police characters, even like letting the villain build up my pseudo-hate for them, but real life, never.
