Don't know if anybody will do this but I need someone to model a capship for me since I know I'm not skilled enough to give form to my idea.

If the Lucifer is a giant space lobster and the Sathanas is a giant space flea, I need a giant space whale.

Shivan, of course. It should be as big or only slightly bigger than a Sathanas. I intend for it to be a carrier (and mostly a plot device), and while it doesn't have any offensive beam weaponry, it should be able to defend itself from fighters and bombers (with blob turrets, flak, and AAAf).

Is anyone willing to make this? I'm leaving it vague on purpose so as to give the modeler a lot of creative freedom.

Well... You can use SCa Shiamak till' You find someone to do your request. It's rather hard to find someone who just model, texture and convert something that big for you.

Yeah the shiamack is a good model, despite its age.

You say you have no modelling skills, I was like that, and everybody told me to pick up modelling software and practice. That's what I did and I have managed to make models and get them into the Freespace.  Blender is free and there are some very good tutorials on blender here. I'm not trying to be negative but most modellers are very busy on mods and I was told by several people on here to try and have a go at doing it myself and it does feel very rewarding when you see your own work in game :) so again im not try to be mean or anything. It will actually give you several new skill sets

Like what starbug said, if you want a model customized to your specifications, you'll need to do it yourself.  You might've gotten a few takers back in 2001 with this request, but it's 2013 and nobody will do something like this for you. That's just the cold, hard fact.

And this is just a side note -- have you tried extensively to model in the past? If not then don't just pass it off by saying that you can't do it. Please hold yourself to a higher standard. In this world one can do many things; one just needs to try and to keep trying. It took me a solid year to learn how. For every 1000th failure there is success, and with that success you will take flight.  If not then don't even bother going forward with your plans, and don't bother others to do your work because of your own unwillingness to do what is necessary to get there.

That's a bit of a catch 22, isn't it...

But yeah FlamingMamba, there was someone here not long ago offering money and I don't think they got anywhere. This one:

Oooh! The Centigunal ship looks cool...

And yeah, if you really need that ship modeled, the best person to do it is yourself. It's not that hard once you wrap your head around the modeling program. But you should definitely seek tutorials, they help a lot.

this community is so helpful.

I don't think that that's entirely fair. While some people (Rampage) could certainly have been more diplomatic, the very first reply was a suggestion of the best existing model to fill FlamingMamba's requirements, and the rest were explaining the only realistic option to get what he needed given the scope of what he was after. It's very easy to ask for just one ship, but the kind of project that would be able to give rise to something like he describes at current community standards would be at the very least a months worth of work for a highly skilled modder. Would you expect a more "helpful" community to be full of people willing to jump in commit to that kind of an undertaking for what is "mostly a plot device"? Let me assure you - that community doesn't exist.

Honestly, I think that HLP is a very helpful and friendly community for people trying to teach themselves new skills, and I don't think it reflects badly on us  at all that we tend not to respond to requests like thus one.

That said, FlamingMamba, I don't begrudge you making the thread or asking for help, nit in he slihtest. Sometimes, people get lucky and it's worth a crack at the very least. I hope that you'll be able to make use of the Shiamak and still get your project - whatever it may be - off the ground.

  • quite a nice guy, no really, i am
you could use an upscaled version of my beelzeboul if you don't mind adding a few turrets from other ships (which is easy enough in psc2)
also, we have 2 quite different models of the sathanas around, with a bit of stretching and returreting you could change one of it slightly
get creative...

Yeah I have found this community one of the most helpful,  When i asked for a single model i was told it would be easiest and best if i did it myself and i was pointed to list of tutorials. In my personal opinion that has been the best advice, as i have started getting models in myself and learned new skill sets, were as if someone had taken on the job, that person may have not finished it or taken a long time to do. So i was trying to say the best option for FlamingMamba would be to download blender as its free and look on the wiki for tutorials, or Youtube. Those are your friends. Most important of all asking on the forums if your stuck in any part from modelling to setting up the pof in PCS2 just ask on here and someone will help you, This is a friendly community.

As others have said once you have the basics of the program down making models becomes pretty simple and getting them into freespace isnt that hard once you followed the tutorials on the hardlight wiki, and done it once. Also when it comes to adding turrets etc in PCS2 look at other peoples models and the stock models, A lot of the information can be copied, with just minor adjustments.

Again i don't want to come across sound cruel and harsh, want to try and inspire you, as i said theres nothing more rewarding than seeing your own work in game, and once you have had a few goes your on your way to creating your own mod. When i started work on my Dalek Invasion mod, i knew nothing at all and i started reading the Freespace wiki and started work myself. You can do it and once started the only limitation is your imagination, it just takes practice.

Alternative to the Shiamak may be to rescaled and do a few turret and subsystem edits to the Dante (fiddle with it in PCS2).

this community is so helpful.

But I remember you once asking for some help.

when can we expect to see tips for turrets and capships? you pretty much skipped the turrets entirely. i'm dying to know how because the only tutorial about turrets is for 3ds max.

Did you eventually learn how?  That quote is from the same tutorial that I used to learn to model.  Not that I am any good at it, but I can do it.  This community is not good at "will someone do this for me", but it is very helpful with "I am trying to learn this, can someone help?"  Not to mention there are some excellent tutorials out there for just about anything you want to do.

These guys will help anyone who is trying to help themselves.

So yeah, that comment was more than a bit unfair.

[Edit]
Sorry about the thread hijack, but ....aw hell it's pretty obvious why.

Flamingmamba if you try, people will help.  They will even download your mesh and tell you what needs fixed and how to fix it.  Trust me, they did it with mine.  I've has more one on one sessions with people teaching me things than I can count.  Look at the quality that they produce, that alone should inspire you to want to learn from them.
