Re: HLP OS and Hardware Survey
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T (6 cores @ 3.2 GHz per core), supports SSE3 (and "SSE4A", whatever that is)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6970 (supports DX11/OGL4)
RAM: 4 GB at some very fast speed that I cannot remember, but given how full it can get (and the way some people are putting "8 GB" under "minimum specifications", even though that is clearly a lie), thinking of upgrading to 16 GB.

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".

<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"

<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

Re: HLP OS and Hardware Survey
Posted the specs of my new Sager laptop, which ironically, I'm not using much at all for the moment. I have to get my "desk" fixed to where I can put the laptop on it without fear of the desk falling apart (The laptop is fairly heavy).

Old Specs:
Win XP
Intel Integrated Graphics
Core2 Duo T5300
Secure the Source, Contain the Code, Protect the Project

Re: HLP OS and Hardware Survey
I selected for my current rig, even though I'll be upgrading once Haswell-E is out (one way or the other).

I could bump the GPU up to DX11/OGL4, but I don't really feel like sinking money into something that will essentially be constrained so much by all the rest of the system.

OS: Win 7, 64-bit
CPU: Intel C2Q Q9450 (2.66Ghz, 12MB)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT (1024MB)
RAM: 8GB 800Mhz DDR2

I'm hoping to keep this setup running as-is for a few more years.

what's the intel for Fury?
Just to see how modern computers HLP folks are running and how results compare to Steam's survey. It doesn't hurt that surveys like these helps SCP to better focus their efforts.

Also, it is not needed to post exact specs. Of course you can if you want, it's just not relevant beyond what is asked in the poll.

We're not stopping you from posting your full specs, but as Fury said, they're not relevant to us.

Re: HLP OS and Hardware Survey
OS: Win7, 64-bit
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti, 2048MB
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.3GHz (that's gotta be SSE3)
RAM: 8GB DDR3

I do also keep a WinXP netbook around for travels and some vintage games, but it's a less-than-ideal solution for a good number of cases. Will consider alternate setups in time.

SB and up have AVX.

it's a little discouraging to see nvidia/intel dominating AMD so hard.  i don't want to see the industry lose that competition.

Re: HLP OS and Hardware Survey
The poll only had space for my primary gaming rig (Win 7 x64/AVX/OpenGL 4).

I also have a MacBook Pro running OS X with a Core i5 (SSE3) and GTX 330M (OpenGL 3.2), and I use Linux sometimes as well.

EDIT: Updated after re-reading OP.

Re: HLP OS and Hardware Survey
Significant percentage of people have AVX capable CPU, so why have you folks not given The E any feefback on AVX enabled FSO builds? Silly people. :p You'll also notice that Test Builds board has several other interesting topics on probable performance improvements. But the only way these get into mainline FSO builds is that people test them properly and help iron out bugs. :)

I should get on that too, I haven't had FSO installed in good long while so maybe it's about time to install FSO again.

i admit i dont play freespace as much as i used to. mwll, starcraft, and ksp are eating all my game time. so my whole directory is one big pile of legacy with depricated nukemod assets strewn around everywhere. i might just use the nuke the entire site from orbit mentality on it to bring me up to date.

Because this is the first I've heard of it.  I, and I'm sure plenty of others with the capable hardware, simply never venture into the test builds sections because we're not modders or coders.  If you stick that kind of stuff in the announcements or just mention "hey we have neat stuff you might be able to test" in general every now and again, you'll probably get a decent response.

OS: Vista Business 32bit
Graphics: GeForce 9600GT
CPU: Intel E8500 (dual core), 3,16GHz
RAM: 4GB

Will probably change once I can get my hands on a better motherboard, or Star Citizen comes out. :) I don't like changing my computer, because it's a lot of work moving and re-installing everything I need (and just swapping thing around never works). Still, when I do get to doing it, it'll be running top of the line Windows and at least a quad-core CPU.
