Let me put it this way: I created the model and the basic texturing. Snipes is doing the converting to FS2. Once that is complete to our satisfaction, and as long as Snipes has no problems with it (he shouldn't, but who knows...), I have absolutely no problem with releasing it to the general public for whatever campaigns they want to include it in.

My SOC: Operation Otara (see my page) has no plans for any MODs to be included whatsoever, as it takes place during the main FS2 campaign. So I don't mind anyone using the finished product. Just mention Snipes and I in the credits, as usual...

A) Did you know that you can edit your post if you forgot anything. It helps prevent double-posting..

B) I promised, and I now deliver: GVCa Nameless renderings! Now, don't expect too much, as I simply did these using 3D Exploration. The BG is a nebula pic I made in Photoshop a few years back.

The turrets are in place in the renders. They have no textures, though, but they do have a color-coding: Red (pinkish ) is anti-capital beams, yellow is anti-fighter beams, green is flak, and blue (purple) is plain lasers.

First, a general angle of the ship:

Now, a nice view of the double fighterbays in the rear:

And for last, a shot of the underside, showing the recessed engine housing and the angle on the central neck:

Very cool Vasudan ship!

How about:
GVCa Imhotep (still like that one, sounds important  )
GVCa Giza (like where the great pyramids are)
GVCa Amaunet (description, like a mother god (mother god seems good for a carrier))
For more ideas:  http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/africa/egyptian/articles.html

I like it! If there are any other names along those lines (mothership, etc) lemme know, 'cause "Amaunet" is kinda rough on the tounge.

Actually, I'm thinking more along the lines of 1.8+ - a wee bit smaller that the Hatshepsut. I think that fits best, since the purpose of it is not to be yet another super-jugger-mega-dreadnaught, but a very reasonable ship that could have easily been incorporated into the game by   without ruining the scale of things.

However, currently it has 7 heavy beam turrets, which is a bit much, considering that the Hat-whatever has 4. I'll either probably remove a few, or give some sort of Star Trek "Defiant" powerhouse reasoning as to why so much power is packed into something smaller that a Hatsh-whatever.

no... keep trying to balance it a la Volition, I think... replace the beams by flack, coz a carrier will probably use only anti fighter weapons to allow their onboard fighter to take without too much trouble during a battle.

You could go a couple ways with that. It probably shouldn't have seven heavies since no destroyer in the GTVA has that many and if you're going to classify this as a carrier it should probably be more like a Hecate and only have a couple. However, you could say that since its a new ship it has more efficient beam cannons which allow more firepower in a smaller space. You could also go with a larger number of the smaller cannons, like having six Vslash instead of four BVas, or some such. It almost certainly shouldn't outgun a Hatshepsut tho, not unless you want to re-classify it as a destroyer.
If it aint broke, break it!

Good points, both of you.

I'm thinking along these lines: modern carriers mainly have anti-missile turrets and missiles, and anti-ship missiles like the tomahawk (I think...). While their main offensive power is the fighters they carry, they're not toothless without them.

However, nowadays carriers are nessecary because planes simply don't have the range to get everywhere that's needed. But in FS2, fighters have jump drives, virtually negating the whole range problem. Although I'm sure that there are still plenty of advanteges to having a carrier in the immediate vicinity, it's not as absolutely nessecary as it is in the real world.

Therefore, it is my opinion that FS2 carriers will not be focused as much on carrying fighters to the neglect of direct offensive weaponry.

But you are right, the # of heavy beams needs to be toned down. So, I'm thinking one BVAS, with the rest being those pathetic SVAS turrets. The other current numbers are: 14 flak, 9 AAA and 22 plain laser turrets. For a newly designed carrier, I think that's reasonable... well, maybe a BIT over kill...

Well, according to the FS2 Beam Reference, the BFGreen is about half again as powerful as the BVas. The BGreens are more or less equal to the BVas.
