50th Moon Landing Anniversary
Today, July 19th 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of mankind's moon landing made by Apollo 11. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the Moon. Have anyone celebrated this anniversary here on HLP?

Re: 50th Moon Landing Anniversary
Is it just me or was the 40year anniversary more celebrated then the 50th one today by the media?

then again, I could be wrong. It's still just 11:00 AM for me

You're not wrong, at least as far as I can tell (and I kinda limit my exposure to mainstream media for my own sanity's sake).

Thanks, in no small part to SpaceX, There's a lot more public optimism, not to mention actual technical development now then there was even 10 years ago. Perhaps this has something to do with it, a "yeah, we heard the message 10 years ago and look how far we've come in response" kinda thing. Also, as much as I hate to say it, Space exploration/space technology isn't as mainstream or sought after as it once was.

or maybe I'm just talking out of my ***

Well, I also did kind-of burnt/numbed myself out from Apollo fever myself when someone got me the Lego Saturn V set last Christmas.  :D

I've been hearing a bit about it on local news stations (Montreal), but it's still a bit early since tomorrow is the anniversary (more precisely, 20:17 UTC).

Personally, I'm pretty excited to see the next landing. My parents recall the excitement of the Apollo 11 landing, so getting to watch one in real time would be awesome.

My son and I built an Estes rocket to launch tomorrow in commemoration.  :)

Ooooh! What kind of engine? Multi-stage or just one?

Is it like a Saturn V kind of thing or? . . .

Don't forget to check the wind direction before you take off! Pick a nice flat spot with low/no shrubs, and have the bright colors somewhere on the decent stage, those things can be heckin' hard to find sometimes.  Also, extra engines and shoots if you plan on more then one launch.

Just a little single stage starter, the Estes Flash.  It didn't even need glue!  Using a B6-4; the store did not have the A8-3 that I would have preferred for the first flight.

30-40 years ago I was big into Estes and Centuri hobby rockets.  I always wanted a Saturn V but I knew I would never fly a $50 rocket lol.  My biggest was an Estes Colossus, and I had a few multi-stage (but no clusters) and a glider or two.  My science fair projects in all four years of high school centered around rockets.  I lost many rockets to trees, and had one (a Wizard with a C6-7) that I never saw again.

That's Awesome, when I was younger me and my dad would launch Estes every month or so, we even had a few minis that we lost after several runs, it's hard to look for anything when everything is covered sagebrush and Nevada's weather is more or less random. lol.

I understand that!  Here in Missouri if the trees don't eat the rockets the tall grass in the fields may.  Especially the minis, or lower stages.

Re: 50th Moon Landing Anniversary
NASA streamed the original CBS broadcast of the landing at its exact time this afternoon. Seeing Walter Cronkite overcome with relief when they're confirmed touched down never gets old. I love those period graphics they used to actually have something on-screen.

I have no idea what you're talking about.  It's not my fault you all got suckered by NASA's sound stage event.
