I'm five missions in and so far I'm really liking this, great work MJN!

In particular, I wanted to point out a line of dialogue I really liked.  In mission 5, the player is supposed to escort a ship out of a nebula cloud; but as you exit you're ambushed by HOL who want to capture the ship.  If you manage to destroy the attacking fighters, the HOL captain says "Well played Terrans.  It seems you may have some of the Destroyers in you after all.  Until next time, then."

That was very interesting because in all the campaigns I've played before (that I can remember) all HOL dialogue towards you is hostile and full of contempt whereas this had at least a degree of martial respect.

Agreed, I love the insight into HOL thinking. They'd be like any cult, with members drawn to them for a multitude of reasons, and not just single-minded villains. BtA (especially BtA2) has an excellent focus on characters as people with internal lives and feelings, not just characters as plot devices. That's definitely one of the strengths of its maximalist, detail-oriented storytelling versus FS2's usual minimalist style.

Y'all, that's so nice to hear. Slaves of Chaos is a hard act to follow: I came into BtA shortly before development started on The Growing Silence, without any real experience on a project like it. It was a real trial by fire, but also a ton of fun, and I feel like I learned a lot from it; I definitely hope to carry those lessons with me as we conclude the story. While we've gotten the feedback that the BtA2 pilot cast was hard for some people to keep track of - and that's definitely something we'll be mindful of going forwards - I'm still proud of how much of an "internal life and feelings" we were able to give them, and I'm glad that you liked them. A more nuanced take on the Hammer of Light has been on my wishlist for a long time, and it's really nice to hear that you've picked up on it. Without wishing to spoil, definitely keep that in mind as you play through the rest of the story~

I liked this line a lot too. HOL looks up to the Shivans, so it makes sense that they respect strength and look down on weakness of any kind.
