For the last week I've been playing with Truespace, Photoshop, PCS and a couple of other programs whenever I had some free time, trying to find out how to make a working ship for FS SCP.
This is my FIRST ship and it's WIP, so it doesn't look really detailed, but since I got it to fly...:

Now time to think of some thrusters/inlets/other details/glows and it should look nice.
Also- weapons and subsystems exist and work (including 'fireball', a custom weapon that needs a real name, to compensate for only 2 gunmounts, blob shown in next screenshot), docking path seems to be messed up.

Update for today:
Since I don't have any good ideas to finish the textures, I did some tbl edits, balancing the ship, it's guns and also gave it a muzzleflash:

The ship (named Hussar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Hussars)) is a 'heavy interceptor', 18 m wide, 19 meters long and 13 meters high. It has almost the HP's of a GVB Sekhmet, it's a bit more maneuverable, much faster on A-burners, and carries a lot less missiles (20+30 in 2 bays)
It's primary guns (Koncerz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koncerz), named after the big sword the hussars used) are almost 2x more powerfull than a Kayser, and suck a respectable amount of power too. The Koncerz has the 'cycle' flag added, so only 1 gun shoots at a time.
Again: Suggestions, comments (other than the detailed textures I need to work on)?

I noticed a reduction of the thrusters. Nice :yes:
I'm worried about the primary. Though it has the "cycle" flag, it might be not to balance something with the power of 2 Kaysers...

And I was trying to keep them as big as possible.... :snipe:
The whole idea of giving it such mighty guns is: The Erynies carries up to 8 Kaysers and 90 units of missiles vs the Hussar's 2 guns and 50 units of missiles, so it would look like a wu$$y with standard FS weapons.
BTW- how does the muzzleflash look? Big/small enough or should I resize it like the thrusters?
PS: I'm also thinking of giving it glowing orange tiger-stripes and creating a new race (which is pretty popular lately...) just to model a whole line of ships from fighter through corvette to battleship.

Ok. Powerful primaries and contained secondaries...they're enough for balance.
Its shape is still close to GTVA specifications but you're always free to create a new set of craft belonging to a separate species :)
I like the idea of another species. Many campaign creators simply go with reskins...

That's basically my whole idea: an 'alternative' way of making ship classes, and see how it works with the cannon ones (ie. a 'gunship', 'carrier' and 'battleship' class along with a couple already existing ones would form my fleet, I'll also say goodbye to destroyers and use a corvette or frigate style ship for the role...)

Yeah, I'm thinking of a whole race beginning with the Hussar and ending with a 3.5 km long carrier and 3 km long battleship with some 50-60 turrets. And I'd release all ships in a single big file, or maybe learn FRED and make a short campaign featuring them.

Hmmmm, make the edges glow blue and it could be a spaceship for Automan! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automan) :lol: In the show, he had a car and an airplane like that, with blue neon glow FX on all the edges. (ISTR other vehicles, but I know there was the car and plane.)
It's looking good. Simple, purposeful, un-greebled. Like you're keeping all the hardware under armor rather than hanging it out in the breeze where it's begging to be shot off.

Google doesn't seem to know that word- what is/are a Merisst? BTW- searching through 1000 year old Polish legends and myths right now hoping to find a good name...

Strike craft from cavalry units, capship classes named after huge castles and weapons after swords, old guns and Medieval artillery.

BTW - The Hussar has brand new secondaries: the short range Blunderbuss (modded Heat Seeking Tornado missile that shoots 1 missile at a time, a lot better than the original because countermeasures spoof only 1 per shot and, due to immediate locking it's usefull in dogfights) and the med/long range Arquebus (modded Aspect Seeking Trebuchet, it has 2x the damage of the Harpoon, 3km range and shoots 1 per 4 seconds).
Most missiles don't hit their targets during testing, but the MX-64 and Hornet missiles the Gorgon has makes it look crappy, rather than the uber fighter it should be. This means the Shivans shall get pwned without the use of overkill ships with overkill weapons, unless there's a balanced Shivan weapons pack I could use for further testing.
BTW point 2- In a 4 SF Gorgon vs 3 Hussar fight, the opposing forces are rather balanced. FYI- I'm an observer so it's 3x AI vs 4x Shivan AI. All tests are made on Extreme difficulty.

First I have to do a dozen models to have a species, than a dozen more textures...
then pof's, tbl's, balancing, and later I'll think about sounds.
So far I'm using stock sounds, but I'm mixing things up (like the muzzleflash made of ... oh well, I'll keep that a secret :p)

Tiigran-Merisst? So far no species in the FS Universe has a two word name AFAIK. :)
BTW- time to begin the bomber/gunship class. I'm thinking of a common hull, with the bomber having huge missile banks and maybe 1 turret, and the gunship having 2 more guns, 3 or 4 turrets and small secondary bays.
They're going to look like a more massive Hussar, maybe with 4 wings instead of 2 wings+tail.

Is there a way of making a ship stealth above a specific distance (let's say 750 meters) without using FRED (ie tbl file edits)? Because making it fully stealth would make it unbalanced and a bit unrealistic ("Nah, its too fat").

Vishnans/Brahmans aren't canon race names, so don't feel that they're already taken if you're looking for names :P
I like the theme you're going for with these ships (I'm a sucker for glowy stripes on a dark hull).

I think I'll stay with Tiigran-Merisst.
Therefore we have the T-MF Hussar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Hussars), coming up next are T-MB Cuirassier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuirassier) and the T-MGs Gendarme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gendarme_%28historical%29)
Update: the Bomber/gunship hull is already 2 cubes with 2 bigger wings growing out of the bottom half and two smaller ones instead of a tail...
Other than that it will keep the boxy style.
I'll post a screenshot when it'll look like a ship.
Oh and- anyone find any tricks on the limited stealth other than FRED?

I edited the weapons.TBL so the koncerz now actually looks like a fireball, and did some minor balancing to make it less god like

Storyline Suggestion..... Shortly after Capella (reduces the need for new GTVA models) the GTVA decides to scout out many of the unknown systems and set up an early warning system just in case the Shivans decide to come back. A few systems out from main GTVA space, the Tiigran-Merisst are found, deep in their own war with the Shivans. In fact this is the only reason the Shivans didn't come back... the TM were in the way. So now, of course, the GTVA decides to go charging to the rescue, but not everybody takes a liking to this, and the tensions are high on both sides.....
I made this up just now, so if it seems unplanned thats because it is unplanned.

The new ship (unfinished yet) is a hybrid of the gunship and the heavy bomber.
I'll keep the hull for both, and use everything to the left of the ship's centerline (big missile bay and gunless wing) on both sides (mirrored of coarse) to create the heavy bomber. The other side will be mirrored and used for the gunship, with the huge gun pod being a Flak gun.
The Hussar's directly above it to compare the size.
So how do you like it?

Also, i made a new weapon, its a fighter beam called the Spatha, used for destroying subsystems and wiping out shield. Its slow firing but is very accurate with high velocity.

I made a fighter beam once, it was an anti bomber weapon, massive damage but would suck your reactor dry.

Sorry for the double post but i wanted to bump this so i could get a mod/admin to hear this. Now that we've got a campaign planned, several models in the making, 3 new weapons, and a team (counting retsof since the campaign is based off of his idea) any chance of getting a forum section added?

That would be 8 new (working, not all finished) weapons, 1 working ship, 4 in the making...
But I personally think it's a bit early for a forum section, maybe when I get a couple new models working I'll ask for one.

What about an introduction to the MOD? A small .txt file where the new species is descripted(background and useful informations about ships and weapons) should be enough :)

Well, since Hellstryker and I are still discussing the ideas I'll post only a small intro to what happens after FS 2:
Shortly after Capella, Command figured out that the GTVA needs to expand, beginning with the unexplored node in Regulus. On the other side, there was a lonely star classified as Struve 2398 B. After scanning most of the surrounding space a ship was noticed warping out. Sensors classified it as Shivan, causing mass panic.
The decision was made to destroy the jump nodes leading further into unexplored space, since there was no way of stopping a new Shivan invasion.
Command, in all it's wisdom, also decided against further research beyond GTVA space, at least in the foreseeable future. This measure was taken to avoid triggering another Shivan incursion (the theory that the Shivans simply counter-attacked the GTVA for invading the nebula was really popular).
Command also ordered to build heavy blockades by the unexplored nodes in Mirfak, Adhara, Altair and Duhbe, should the Shivans return uninvited. These nodes were left open, labeled as 'To be explored later. Much later'.
Months passed, and the situation was slowly getting back to normal after the mess the Shivans made.
Meanwhile the frontline of an intergalactic war was shifting, right into GTVA space.

I could, but i dont have a camera. @mobius I dont have too much insight on the species tactics, traditions, motives or whatever, but i do know their civilization is very, VERY, old... around 3-4 thousand years (space wise, of course)

As for looks, they need to look like something that would build ships that are rather bulbous. Maybe something a little lumpy.... no, no, no, hmmm...... well i guess first we need to decide if they're even humanoid. Maybe another buglike species, though they would be very different from the shivans, maybe beetle-like

Going by the models shown in the thread, I'd say rather squat and rotund. No neck but with two eyes highly articulated like a chameleon. Give them two main tentacles with the ends split into at least three multi-jointed fingers. They have a caste system where having more than three fingers is a higher caste. Individuals with up to six fingers on both tentacles have been born (hatched?) they're highly intelligent but tend to be quite scatterbrained and for unknown reasons have a much shorter lifespan, though they also mature faster. Unfortunately most of the six fingers are also sterile, especially with both tentacles having six fingers. In their entire recorded history, only three have lived with seven fingers on both tentacles. Those three were prolific inventors and achieved mental maturity astonishingly quickly. The last one invented the FTL drive their species has used to travel to other star systems. It was amazingly NOT sterile and managed to breed three offspring, all of which were boringly normal three fingers who showed no signs of abnormalities and whose descendants have produced nothing but completely normal three fingers.
An uncommon genetic defect causes fewer than three fingers on one or both tentacles, combined with reduced mental ability. An extreme form of the defect causes no fingers at all and extremely low mental ability.
Two more tentacles that are a bit shorter but thicker, stronger and no fingers. The tentacles have dozens of vertebrae-like bones. The're digitigrade (legs like the back ones of a kangaroo, shorter yet stronger) so they don't need seats, just fold their legs up and strap to a back support.
With the four tentacles they're very nasty ground fighters, able to hold large weapons. In their pre-space era they developed gunpowder weapons they could hold steady with their large tentacles while the other two were used for loading and firing. This ability came in very handy when they developed fully automatic firearms, able to one-being weapons that for humanoid species would be crew served.
Walking speed is fairly slow but they have a leaping gait that also uses their large tentacles. Especially agile members of their species learn to use legs and tentacles together to jump straight up, up to 3x their body height. In manipulatory member to tentacle combat, the safest distance from one is either just out of tentacle reach or very far away, though if you taunt one too long it's likely to just low jump at you for a squashing tackle rather than follow the ancient rules of non-powered weapons combat. (They can't throw worth s**t so no worries about getting a knife thrown at you.)
Their unarmed team wrestling matches are a sight to see, with the competitors sproinging around until they land within grabbing reach of each other.

And one hell of a forward facing, fortified from all sides torpedo tube/Shivan style Flux Cannon (developing guns for fighters gave me the idea that this species isn't really beam happy, I'll keep my capship ideas secret for now- but expect huge three-gun turrets resembling WW II battleships on them, with anti-capship-only flux guns)

Right- the weapon is named the Shivan Super Laser, but the FS1 Tech Room Description uses the term "massive Flux Cannons".

I'm working on a little 'surprize', but I have a small problem here- I gave this weapon a muzzleflash, the flash works on the Hussar, but when I test-fire it from the Hecate's turrets (basically it's going to be a capship weapon), the flash doesn't work.
Anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it (if it's a common problem that is), because I don't really have time to play with this stuff untill tomorrow evening?

I'm not sure, but in a turret tutorial it says you need to set the light points or so... Not sure though. :confused:

I'm working on stock ships, so it shouldn't be the case...
Anyway:
Here's an Artillery salvo (Main gun for the battleship class- as I wrote before, the Tiigran-Merisst won't use too many BFbeams) without the muzzleflash (as soon as I get it working, I'll post another screenshot). It's test fired from the Orion because the BB still doesn't work yet (it's barely started):

nice ship btw, for some reason that makes me think more of an interceptor then the fs ones, htose make me think space superiority/fighter... even though i do like their look.... still, that looks like an interceptor, and i love those muzzle flashes, can i give it a try? :D

So this is an update on the heavy bomber, the Cuirassier (The Hussar's there to compare the sizes).
The spheres on it's tail will be turrets.

I'm checking in after a few days of absence, I have recently missed some school and semester was today, so I was busy crunching. First mission is halfway done. I'll get it to you before Saturday, when I will be going on vacation for about a week-and-a-half. Good job on the models and weapons, by the way. They look like they are ready to kick some butt. :yes:

Larry Niven re-wrote his Known Space short story "The Slaver Weapon" for the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "The Soft Weapon".
Ringworld was an invention of Niven's as a "more practical" alternative to a Dyson sphere. I dunno if Bungie/Microsoft ever paid Niven a penny for it.

Minor update:
I finally got my turrets to work, BUT:
LithUnwrap seems to delete the lights in the model making both turrets one subobject, and TrueSpace messes up the UV map when I try to get the lights back, which makes me stuck once again. :confused:
Anyone know how to solve this?

I know this is a little late, and not very important, but maybe you could make the Terran style engine trails orange, there are too many aliens using the Vasudan style spray-of-light trails. :drevil:

Looks like a good weapon for strafing larger targets. And the shotgun looks great for bothering the **** out of other fighters as well as death to turrets. :yes:

It will heat it up the enemy's armor, make the inside a sauna a long time before melting through the hull, and cause subsystem control computers (and crew) to overheat and shut down (for crew: get out and run away).
That makes the Spatha (weapon's name) a short range, but much more effective equivalent to the GTW Akheton SDG.

I had a shotgun weapon that ired like 30 pellets in a large cone radios. Was supposed to be in FOW 1 but I decides to drop it..It didn't really feel like a serious weapon, despite it effectivnes at breaking tight bomber formations.

if you have a good supply of oxygen sure you can have flamethrowers in space. But what would be called a flamethrower in space just because we'd be use to calling it that for what it does and looks like.
If you wanted an easy to use flamethrower in space, i'd just make a weapon to spew a jet of hot plasma in a similar fashion that a flame thrower spews flames. I'd call it the plasma thrower. It'd require less equipment too, because you wouldn't need a tank of oxygen and a tank of something burnable. You'd just need one tank of hydrogen.

The only thing wrong with the artillery effects is that the trail doesn't quite match up with the bullet. Edit it a bit to blend it more and it will easily look "professional enough!" :)
You know, these things are polar opposites to a race I am designing.
Instead of black they are white/silver
Instead of orange glowing lines they have cyan glowing lines
Instead of being angular and geometric they are smooth and flowing
Instead of the guns being named after archaic/old weapons the ships are
Instead of being primary heavy they are secondary heavy

Alright minor spoilers:
1. There will be 4 >3 000 m ship classes (largerst one- 3500 meters long) in the Tiigran Navy, all others will be 3 km or less (starting from 18-20 meter fighters, through 70.7 meter heavy bombers and gunships that will be flyable and 130 meter cutters, which will be the link between strike craft and capships. Anything bigger, and all the specs remain a mistery on HLP, at least for now :p).
2. The Shivans will have far more EVIL ships (such as the Gorgon and subspace rift armed Lamia seen on screenshots) than those met in FS 2, and I have a good story to explain why they didn't appear earlier.
3. And the 80 juggs are only part of the Shivan fleet, as most people probably assume
4. Finally- the Tiigran-Merisst ship quality (not uber-bbqfullness or numbers- that's the Shivan school of fighting, but rather good and balanced design without going to any extremes), and something not known much in the FS Universe called tactics is their way to counter armies of juggs. (just in case anyone asks how they manage to fight a war with the Shivans without being owned in 48 hours)

This will be the 'Destroyer escort', or De class. It's called the T-MDe Iwakuni, and it'll be the eyes and ears of the heavier capships (*cough*huge sensors on nose*cough*). It is also armed almost like a cruiser, so it can escort convoys and perform lighter strikes. The hull is 230 meters long, just over 290 m including antennas...
Next update next week I guess :p

I say that mostly because the intelligence of the octopus is commonly extolled by biologists, and it seems reasonable that some form of cephalopod might achieve starfaring capability somewhere.

Bombs that launch in groups of 3 (double firing mode here), they'll be used for killing subsystems, and they launch in a swarm to give a larger chance of hitting.

The small Tiigran General Purpose bomb. These launch in groups of 2, since they are intended to be used against capships that aren't fully disarmed. I'll need to work on the trail, because too many weapons use that one.

Doing stuff in Photoshop can easily make some nice firery trails for you to use with the Tiigran stuff.

Mk1... I almost wrote too much... being the heavier interceptor/space superiority (something like a ba**ard child of an Erynies and a Perseus, that inherits some speed, handling and armor, but not the 8 guns or large missile bays).
Anyways, we have a new member- 0rph3u5, so we should be getting a little more speed working.
Also- the destroyer...
It's actually going to be just-above-frigate size, with a small hangar. There will be 2 classes of frigate-destroyer hybrids, one of them will be armed with the Tiigran Arty I posted some time ago when it was test fired from an Orion.

This is a pretty cool shivan ship. The head of the ship is awesome. The ass end is so so. Mostly, the texturing on the head of the ship is pretty good. But, the ass end texturing is just horrid. Better use of texturing on the ass end, more diversity on the ass end and it'll look better. It's not a ship with the highest poly count, but it does look good. The ass end textures kill it for me though :no:

And yes, the Tiigran weapon sharing the name is a swarm weapon (however for balancing and gameplay reasons it won't launch 50 billion projectiles at once).

Terrans ---> Roman and Greek, with some exceptions(GTSG Watchdog).
Vasudans ---> Egyptian.
Shivan ---> Hindu for wings(FS1) and beasts, demons, monsters from many cultures.
Ancient ---> Minoan(but, giving the shortage of names, pre-colombian names are expected to be used).

FS weapons are also based on RL ones. Just look at the Phoenix, which is a long range missile, and the Maxim, whose name comes from a man who helped in the development of machineguns(if I remember well).
What's wrong with Arcadia? The name of a Greek region fits the requirements. The name Arcadia was also related to a writing style. The name Faustus also comes from worlds far from the Roman/Greek one(Doctor Faustus anyone? Mephisto? Lucifer?) but these are only exceptions. The vast majority of names follow a naming convention and the other names fit well(like Faustus ending with -us, Arcadia being a Greek region and a Latin word, etc. etc.).
Dis is a god, open a Latin dictionary if you don't believe me. He was related to darkness, thus making the name perfect for a Shivan ship.

Though if he wants them to be more FS cannon-like he could adopt a naming scheme based on mythology rather than weaponry. There are far more mythologies on the world than simply greek, egyptian and hindu.

I dunno where the hell Tigers live, but when I think big cats I think of them roaming the fields of Africa taking down gazelles and wildebeast and whatever else. And, not to come off as an ignorant a**hole, but the overall darker textures of your ships could be more indicative of Afrika.

Well the public part isn't much more updated than this thread, because a lot of people visit here, and much less go to FSmods... Nothing I can't fix :p
Anyways, we have 2 FREDders, and 2 missions to go to release the demo (one of which is over half finished, and the other one is planned and will get started any time now)...
I might get interested in the African Mythology thanks to this thread.
Also- to be released in the demo:
about 3-4 primary weapons
3-4 secondaries
4 ships
3 missions
of which all ships and weapons are ready (some more are done, but will be released later when they appear in game so we won't spoil stuff too early), and the missions are being built now.
The demo will show our version of what happens a few weeks post Capella (but only from the GTVA perspective), as an introduction to what happens next.

I use TrueSpace 3.2, and a trick:
PCS has a scale function, I'll just set it 200:1 instead of the default 20:1, so I don't need to make huge models.
And the fighter in the scene is also 10x smaller than the original model to fit the scale of the capships.
The artillery will be using Retsof's unpublished blobs and effects (he's got talent, so don't worry :p)
And the Tiigrans are inspired a bit by the playable races in HW, a little by the Projenitors from HW 2 :cough: Hussar :/cough:, and a little by existing FS ships such as the Deimos. However, most of the style is my own ideas.

This is amazing, how you've managed so much progress over such a small timespan is mind boggling! And i love your ships. They really stand out from the normal Terran/Shivan/Vasudan designs.
The only thing that's bugging me is the fact that they went from being a cool Kilrathi like kinda race to a squid race...TBH if they were a watery race wouldn't their ships be...well, more blueish and lighter? Cause the dark nature and the orange stripes fits more with the idea that they are a feline race of some sorts.
I wish you good luck in this endeavour. I would hate to see this fall into the archives as an unreleased mod.

The color scheme I chose is simply to make them look rather aggressive, and the orange glow adds somewhat to the coolness factor.
Also- Terran ships are beam heavy, so these won't work as good terrans (unless refitted with a few custom turrets). :p

Actually, I was referring to the Quarren that share the Mon Calamari's homeworld of Dac, and made the rounded-skeletal ships for the Confederacy of Independent systems. (Which is coincidentally, my favourite SW faction, ship-design wise, and the source of my username.) IMO, the Mon Calamari are too widely known to get away with "borrowing" design aspects. That's going off on a tangent though.

It'll have the Cycle flag enabled for it's main gun (a new one will be created) so yeah, it'll work similar to a Gatling gun shooting from 1 barrel at a time, at a pretty high rate of fire (although not as high as a Maxim, because this species generally prefers to hit harder than to spam weak blobs everywhere).

It'll have the Cycle flag enabled for it's main gun (a new one will be created) so yeah, it'll work similar to a Gatling gun shooting from 1 barrel at a time, at a pretty high rate of fire (although not as high as a Maxim, because this species generally prefers to hit harder than to spam weak blobs everywhere).
What about the Flamethrower?

Technically it spits small blobs with flaming trails at a high rate of fire to generate a streamish look, but it's a bit unique in an arsenal of hard hitters. The fast firing Flamberge is another one (although it compares to Kaysers in HP/s), but the Koncerz (the default fireball the Hussar Mk I uses, with the characteristic yellow muzzleflash), Bardiche (the flak gun the player could use on the gunships) and Voulge (mini Lucifer style flux cannon) are either mid fire rate/high damage/high power use or low fire rate/really high damage/high power use. The Hussar Mk II will get a totally new weapon, which will have a rather high rate of fire thanks to the 3 barrels and cycle flag, and a high damage per second rate. This will come at the usual cost of high power drinking rate.

i would prefer a variety of colors represented in different weapons. to make for easier differentiation. However, a singular color scheme is usually fine.

The difference is in muzzleflashes, trails and colors (bright yellow to deep orange), so I think it's enough. We still have to fix up the secondary trails, like 2 are used right now...

Well ya did. The missiles have a diameter of 0.3-0.75+ meters, so the ship needs 2 big launch tubes per side (giving 4 secondary fire points), instead of a Mosquito net :p
I like the guns though, and the tail detail.
Also- the windshield is unproportionally huge compared to the rest of the ship, and it's slightly on the wrong polygons...
And one more thing: Next time post the models on the FSMods subforum first.

Both models are WIP, the Himeji isn't completely textured (using Deimos textures untill it get's it's own created), and the De hull is having proper T-M textures created right now (it's using the base texture on the hull for now), but this should give you ladies and gentlemen a picture of how this stuff will look like. It's been a long time since the thread was updated, sorry ladies and gentlemen, I was in the USA, working 12h/day during my summer vacation and I had even less time than during the academic year.
Well I'm home now, and I have some time, so the project will speed up again.
It wasn't stopped or hybernating, only working slowly and in the concealment of a private subforum at freespacemods.net.
I'd like to thank Swantz for the subforum, and give a special thanks to all members of the team, who kept this thing going strong, with very little of my input.

So everyone has seen the Frigate, with 4 Arty guns in 2 turrets. The guns were huge enough to almost allow a fighter to fly in, and we all agree it looks awesome.
But there is something that will be more awesome than a twin Artillery gun turret....

Mirror the Iowa's gun layout along the waterline to have the same set underneath it, and base it's look off the T-M frigate's hull, and you'll pretty much see the basic idea of the T-M BB.
Right now I'm working on the Dreadnaught, which will have 8 Arty guns, fixed forward on it's nose. I'd post a screen (and I've posted on the fsmods subforum- who in the team didn't see it yet, have a look), but the thing isn't finished and it already looks too good to post here. It needs to be saved for a minor surprize...

No problem. I just saw an area where i could contribute and knew that there was some totally awesome pics in this thread to choose from to make a good mini cover pic. BTW in that one it's the redone version that i made with a cleaned up font. I thought that the orange for the font didn't look so good, so i blended it with the image to make it something slightly contrasting to the bright yellows and oranges already.
That font is "devil kalligraphy". I'd rather use the font itself instead of taking screencaps of the font on the myfonts website where you get to type stuff and it puts your text as an image. Screen cap of a font means that i got to go in and separate the text from the image it came from. But, whatever, i think it looks good enough. That font looked like it fit the mod, and that's why i went through some slight trouble to use it.

Hmmm. My plan of attack calls for dropping in behind the destroyer and opening up with all guns.

Don't underestimate the power of the just over 3 km T-MDn. The 4 Artillery guns that can attack to the rear will have the punch of an Iceni.
And due to balancing, don't expect that the ship will have 1/2 the armor of a 1M HP big 'C' or big 'S' because it's half the size (or comparable to the 400k HP GTD Hades because it's almost the same size). Think less, but more than an FS 2 SD Demon.

The only thin' wot looked ****ty is wot th' desired font i wanted fer th' text could only be exported as an image from th' website wot had it fer sale, an' with wot feature i typed "teeth o' th' tiger". Who cares waht i did, i mainly wanted other people t' mess aroun' with it until everybody got it th' way they wanted it.
Dekker, those two fonts are not good for this mod. The top text is the same font i use for my clock on my computer. The bottom font reminds me heavily of the old american west. The image needs a "darker" and "evil" inspired font plz. There's a reason i chose devil kalligraphy. I'm sure there are other dark and evil fonts out there pic one of them instead of the two that you used.

That looks great. But, does anyone know how to slightly blur the background image to make the background look better? Just a weak blur setting is what the background image is screaming for and that'll make the tiigran ship more smoothed out.

Well that can be fixed! I only did that layout just for viewing purposes. If one of mine happens to be chosen, then I'll change it to whatever file extension that's needed. I can also blur the background somewhat if that's absolutely needed.

If you save the image as jpg or png. Make sure no compression was applied! The image is quite tiny enough it doesn't need it's quality decreased. Plz apply a small amount of blur to the background layer plz so it get so the tiigran ship in it gets smoothed out a little. Now if blowfish and jadehawk could slightly blur the background image just a little, that'd be great and we could probably choose.

Too much blurring, try to go with about half as much. Other than that it looks good. This is something blowfish forgot to do. Blurring the background in this picture slighty is the difference to making it look good, too pixelated, or a mirage.
I have another psd file here, it's really the same file except with clear labels for the layers. (http://winterpro.110mb.com/images/beztytuukv0.psd) And instead of two layers is now 3. One with my blurred version, and one with the untouched background. It's really just the same damn psd file i posted earlier except with that extra blurred background layer, but since everyone seems to be forgetting to do that. All other links to the psd file i have posted will let you download the new one. If someone messing around with it forgets about the blur, well then it's there. If someone doesn't like it and wants to do something else to modify it, well the original is in the file as well.
Anyway jadehawk, here's the level of blur that you would want for something. I did this by applying the gaussian blur filter on it's most minimal settings to the background image. And voila, you will end up with a background with not overdone blurring :)

Also this is me posting my original version as a png. Damn png doesn't artifact like jpeg does. Jadehawk, plz do like what other people in here recommended, save your images as uncompressed png. Sort of graphical glitches caused by (poor-quality) compression. Causes migraine among the hi-fi people. And really doesn't look good on anything.
You could, for example, compare a quality DivX video with its Youtube counterpart. The Youtube one has notable artifacts.

Very nice blur, you applied even less blur than i did. But, that's fine because it looks better than mine now.

Anyway, the blur softens up the background just slightly so it's easier to look at. It also makes it look more like a background with some thought put into it, instead of obviously a region of a screenshot with some text on it.
Running a comparison just above this text of the background slightly blurred by you with blowfishes unblurred background. Yours more looks like the candidate for being the first picture you'll see when loading the mod in the launcher.
You should do what you did earlier and do all those examples with the different fonts with what you did with the background.

I just want to blur the background image slightly, it's killing me how much it desires some antialiasing. Your text layer is fine though....just...that..background :mad2:
Anyway, this totally brings to mind how we should do that image thing next time we need one. Not an image idea, just a quicker way to get all of this done. I really enjoyed seeing how everyone messed around with it until they got what they liked though.

I included one with a slight blur like what jadehawk did, and then i included a background layer with a higher blur setting, and then the original untouched background layer also. Choose which of the blurs more appeals to you.
Bengal, at least see if you like blowfish's final product. He's the one who made the image that you chose.

I'd like to present the T-MDe (Tiigran-Merisst Destroyer escort) Iwakuni. Think of it as an AWACS-cruiser hybrid, making it just what the class says, a vessel that protects capships against threats. The ship's 291.5 m long, from tip of antena to end of hull. Any more info, including the size of threats it can handle and sensor abilities, would be too much of a spoiler. :p

Long time, no update, sorry. It's because my vacation is over, same with the rest of the team (especially the FREDders are busy now).
But we have a few surprizes coming up, which will be released with the intro (we planned to add features with later chapters when the FREDders were rushing like crazy). I'll spoil one thing to make the update an update- the Tiigran-Merisst are getting their own weapon models and custom effects implemented, here's the Arquebus med/long range missile:

Generally multiparts have a base and an arm so count it to figure out how many parts... :p
Well either way, there will be maybe 20 multiparts max per ship, making 40 objects, plus 34 single parts giving 74 objects.
Oh, and the big single parts will be multiparts, because the engine allows to have horizontal m-parts, so here's an update:

LithUnwrap can save a lot of work...
However there will be 6 primary guns instead of 7 due to a small change in the texture details, unless I'll do some cheating...

So it either needs to be retextured again to accomodate 4 guns on the outside subhulls and use the original layout, or use 6 guns on the outside to fit the current texture, or use 6 guns on the outside, and I'll leave one of the middle 3 in the original spot (spitting out of the cockpit), and we keep 7 primaries...
Or my version of the Chimera already has a changed layout compared to the original and I should not care about which way it goes?

It's based on the Shivan Erynies, but I gave the model some changes, and no other than freespaceking himself textured it so those who've seen it up close like it to death (either their's or the <classified>'s).

10 days less than a year, yep. The problem is our fredders seem to have died, and nobody seems willing to fix the bugs (regardless of how simple) our testers find... :rolleyes:

Ugh, voice acting. I'm going to just say no. All the campaigns that set out to do it never get it done. Besides, we'd need "female" voice actors, and we all know they're just a silly myth used to scare children :rolleyes:

We'll probably add a custom, higher resolution flash and make some minor changes to the flash's position if it intersects with the T-M ships' gun barrels too much by the time the Battleships will arrive in the campaign, but this is the general idea.

That could be fixed by increasing the offset.
However, that would only work if it was for the Orion. On other ships it'd look stupid with the shots coming out further out from the barrel.

I tried the muzzle glow on my earler FS SCP build, but it only worked if I armed a fighter's primary mount with the Arty gun so I thought it was new...
And the Nightly builds are somewhere in the current build section.

Behold, the Shotgun Pellet. At 1.18 m long, and 0.81 m in diameter, this will be one of the smallest projectiles in the FS Universe. There are currently 20 pellets per round (shown here is a dual fire mode salvo).

Those muzzle flashes (I think that's what I'm seeing) make me think of the bugs' Plasma in the original Starship Troopers (except orange)... I like it :yes:
Maybe you could make it more like that (possibly adjusting the trail as well). It was a cool effect in ST.

OK, there's this little quiz for today:
When I create the campaign file with the 3 missions of the Intro, my ship has no weapons.
I already allowed all needed weapons using the "Initial status" tab, but that doesn't fix the problem...
If any FREDder from outside of the team will figure this out here before the members do, I have a 'cookie' waiting.

Hmm, I had that too once. Fixed it by making a new pilot (from skratch) from the ChoosePilot screen. Cloned pilots seem to have that issue.

Well my semester ends in 3 weeks, and I'll be having some 3-4 tests plus about 5 exams, so I really have a big deficit in free time to play around with the stuff... and blowfish got the intro campaign to work, so we're just a final test (by me) away from release right now (the intro, not the whole campaign obviously).

So I hope noone would be mad at us for delaying the release due to the wrong mainhall being used (and that is the ONLY reason) :p
And the other thing is that I ran out of time again, and I won't have any till Wed or even Fri to do the few hacks (as in find where the mainhall fix was posted in our secret forum, and add it to the mod files, and reload for the next quality control, and perhaps release over here if noone finds anything).
Sorry, but I just have to do a few shipload of things before I can work on TotT in the next 2-4 days.
And in 2-3 weeks I'll have 2-3 weeks of winter break, so we'll get it running again.
And FREDders will be welcome, the ones we have are also busy on other projects, and so are not available without limits. PM me who wants.

1. Don't give release dates if you can't meet your own deadlines. It gets annoying when you don't make it to your own set release dates, and that can really harm your mod's quality. And makes the team seem unprofessional.

Not necessaraly. You can say that nicely and not like... him...
But if you give release dates, it annoys the public, makes the team look unprofessional, and, if the team hurries to release it by their set release date, possibly reduces quality. If that wasn't true, then ASW would have set a release date already.

Well, who isn't... but until I'll be done with the semester (in otherr words- until WED when I have my last exam), we'll be leadership impaired.
And as long as there are these surprizes such as the current one with weapons disappearing from a mission loadout in the most current release candidate, I can't give a green light.

Not to mention the fact using the reverted mission files with the RC3 tables breaks a couple of things, like all the Shivan bombers having no warheads in M2 :doubt:

You know the wings could be used to house guns while the outer fuselage houses missile banks. Serapis is a good example as are the Apollo and Valkyrie to a slight extent.

This Campaign starts three weeks after the Capella Star exploded in the FreeSpace2 game. So any and all ships would have to fall into that time frame to be considered. We have a long way to go, and the Demo gives the player an idea of what this saga will be about. :)
Believe me, we have lots and I mean lots in store for you. :)

I don't notice it. If you knew the trouble I me and blowfish went through making the ****ing thing, you wouldn't be complaining.
Sorry if I come off as harsh, but that glow took about 2 hours to make, then I had to redo it again when I accidently saved the thing without layers, so yeah. :hopping:
I suppose I could upload it if you wanted to fix it yourself or something, but otherwise no.

While models are being churned out and textured ridiculously fast, we have reached a bottleneck. We have only 2 people on the team capable of UVing mapping (at least efficiently) and one of them has quite a lot on his plate at the moment, So if anyone is willing to UV (And if they can texture that's even better, but hardly a requirement) It would be greatly appreciated.
Also, while the HTL Hussar model is done, I currently do not have clearance to show it. :blah:

I also wonder, aside from the rictus, I also once saw a promising shivan cruiser somewhere out there: It was a very fast cruiser (with little armour) and was used mostly as a hit and run opponent. I'm not sure but I think it was named the abel...
Would it find a good use in TOtT as a convoy raider for example?
Also the hydra scout is quite interesting...

That depends. Keep in mind, this MOD happens 3 to 6 weeks after the Capella Star exploded. So the Shivan, Vasudan and Terran Technology would have to fall in that time frame.

The T-Mf Sipahi in my opinion when I play it, it's a light weight, high performance, high maneuverability point defence fighter. Able to get behind anything out there and clobber them with missiles and that gun too. Light on armor is it's only vice other than the single gun. I like flying this one, but if I could, I would also make one with two guns and eliminate the central top missile area. maybe a T-Mf Sipahi II. ;) But that's me and in no way is to put down the excellent version you see here.

As soon as a destructable subsystem on the nose gets fully textured by Jadehawk. Right now it's just a gray model, and doesn't look as good as the turrets and the hull.

I'm still having trouble with Crazybump not loading. It was working fine last week but now I can't for the life of me figure it out. I'll try a System restore back to an earlier time and see if that helps. Or....maybe I'm missing launching dll's? Just realized that while typing. I'll try again when I get home today.

We've progressed another 3 missions from the release, and I finished the storyline during the summer (which I deemed not newsworthy, because I can't spoil anything).
What we lag most on is ships right now, mostly my part of the job (finshing up some models).

Right now I think we'll use the Lamia and 2 custom Shivan capships (made by Hellstryker, aka Durandal).
But we have 6 missions out of the 40-something of the whole campaign more/less done right now, so this might change.
Why- you want to shoot up a Rictus using a T-MB Cuirassier heavy bomber (or the nasty ship that replaces it later on)?

Why not? it so happens to be an attractive ship to my eyes. Also it supplements wel the lamia (intended for capship assault, while the rictus will clear space of fighters). :drevil:

Unless we get moar FREDders (the whole story and mission descriptions are finished, all that's needed is some people to do them, and the members who can FRED are already busy with other stuff).
BTW- we'll be releasing in chapters, so there's some 5-10 missions to go and we'll release Chapter 1, so we might get that done this year.

If it's possible to have tons of .tbm's of the same type, my job will become much easier.

I have a multiple -shp.tbm for Shivans, Terrans, Vasudans, etc. It works.
Also works with weapons.

Shivans have always had some green since FS1. The only difference is that they weren't entirely green.
...Of course, the "Higher Shivans" that I suppose will be in the campaign to come will have a bit of the coloration explained then...

Well I could always go rainbow on them if we don't reach a consensus here. So, more seriously: green, purple, yellow..? What color should they get? I personally began to like green when I started recoloring the ships. It'll go well with the subspace rift weapons.
BTW- I must be tired or something, I didn't even notice the whole Tiberium thing on the Lamia...

Obviously you'll also meet the Tiigran-Merisst, but they are just as much a mystery as the H. Shivans.

How about a glowmap which uses a mixture of darker-toned green, sort of a brooding color (which fits the Shivans just fine...)? That might look better than the current set of glows.

Mix the dark with the light - keep the base color but add in a darker tone/hue. Give it a bubbling/brooding effect. :nod:

So the Higher Shivans stay green. I pretty much suck at photoshop, so I'll need to take my time figuring out which function(s) would make the coolest effect on the glowmaps.

One more thing- Jadehawk is responsible for the textures on all 3 T-M ships in the wiki, the Cataphract is based on Hellstryker's concept and blowfish helped me out with the convertion of the T-MB Cuirassier. Could anyone update the articles please?

Probably nothing but a Uv-map issue, but try to fix those oval-shaped missile launchers from the first pic to something nicely circular (yes, I know it's WIP).

Are these the final textures? They seem... well... not so good. I thought they were WIP placeholders fo awhile, but you keep posting them, so now I'm not sure.
Not to be offensive, but they just seem like they belong in a game from 15 years ago rather than the current FSO engine (they remind a lot of something like Terminal Velocity).

Nope, but here's a suggeston, try posting a texture competition.
Upload a blank UV map for any old fighter with a blank layer noting key areas so people know what they're painting.
See what people come up with and offer a prize of some sort. or place on the team.
Couldn't hurt and you may uncover some up and coming talent in the process. :)
Maybe even claim them before another project can snap them up.

The ships have normal maps, so that could also be used as a guideline. They don't need to be really high poly ships due to their nature of being mostly covered by flat armor plates. And leave them without a 3D cockpit.
Should I get more specific, or is this enough info? If it is, try and PM me a screen or model of what you think the ship(s) should look like, and we'll work on it/them from there.
P.S. It should be T-MB Cataphract, not T-MF.

2 things:
I'll have to change the stripes' color to the signature T-M orange (255 128 0).
Also- could you change the cockpit texture above the separator thingy to make it look like some phased array, the sensors subsystem is right above the pilot on these ships, and such a huge windshield would make a big target.

It looks really, really neat and badass. I don't know if Nx took its inspiration from the same Keeper drone from HW2 that I mentioned before, but it feels even more like this drone than the low-poly one. Actually, with a proper retexture, it would perfectly fit for a HW2 projenitor mod.

(as in a dot to the left and right of the center marker for the Hussar to mark it's two guns on the sides of the cockpit, a dot below the center for the Sipahi to indicate it's chin mounted primary, etc). I'd calibrate the dots to show where the shots would hit at 500 meters. That should make aiming much easier.

If you used scripting, probably not very hard.
I'd personally set it up so it shows where the shots would be at whatever the distance to the current target is, rather than at a preset distance... then again, that might be a bit annoying at times, too...

The velocity indicator that made it into the original 3.6.10 Media VPs by accident seemed to make me scary-accurate at times.

I might just create a new HUD with a small dot in the middle of the screen instead of the reticule thingy, and add the gun indicators as custom gauges in the middle of the screen. This can be ship specific, or so they say:

It all slowed down when Jadehawk left (followed by the rest of the team becoming more/less inactive- including me because I had both studying and a part time job), but I'm still working on it. BTW- has anyone seen Nx lately? He disappeared when he gave me the Cataphract.
As soon as I get back to Poland (where my PC is), I'll have the next batch of 4 ships that need only a couple hours of work each, so I'll be able to post new screenshots around early September.

Long time eh? Yes I fell off the Freespace map last year due to Real life. I simply could not keep up with my commitments to anything here let alone my Aviation Artwork as well. I'm currently searching for a job and hope I do find one before I get laid off in three weeks. Wish me luck!
I do however off my profound and sincere apolgies to all the TotT gang for dissapearing in the manner I did. RL sucked and had to deal with it. Took me awhile, but things are OK now.
BengalTiger and the gang have been honestly helpful in everything with this Mod and I am sorry I let you guys down. I really do hope this Mod sees the light of the day as I feel it's really got something special to add to the Freespace Universe. if any of you harbor resentment or anger toward me for dissapearing off like that and that's OK I cant blame you.
Am I back? honestly I cant answer that and cant be involved with anything atm. I have started some of my aviation artwork, but at a snails pace. Will I do some more texturing? Possibly, but again not atm and it will be sometime before I do. Also I may end up getting into Maya again if things go my way.

I understand that you have a style going here, and I suppose there's something to be said for low poly models if it means cranking them out at pace but... having seen what can be done for these guys, with Nx's Cataphract, is going backwards to this level of quality really the direction you want to be going? Sure, it's the feature creep from hell to want to HTL every model, but even updating the texturing style would make these ships significantly more attractive, and now that you have a template for how to do that... like I said, it seems like you're going backwards.
It's up to you, of course, your mod, and I know I'm suggesting feature creep, but these textures really do need work, in my opinion.

Well, as soon as Nx and Jadehawk (or perhaps any new volunteers?) appear here or on FS Mods, I'll upload the models for them to give the magic treatments that make them look really awesome :p. Right now I'm trying to get everything to fly (posting something here once in a while) so the missions in the campaign could get done, and I'll leave the high quality modeling and textures for the experts.

I must state that's a viable approach, and you're to be commended for doing it. One-man-shows often demand such approaches so as to get anything done at a reasonable rate.

I´m modding for Rule the Rail! and also make some 1manshows,but i do so as i´m just modeling the locos and cars,but i release it in the last moment of my postings on brainbombers and Little Ville....with boards.

There's the http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Ships.tbl#.24Piercing_Damage_Draw_Limit: (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Ships.tbl#.24Piercing_Damage_Draw_Limit:), which is set to 10 by default based on what I've seen testing, and there's the http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Weapons.tbl#.24Piercing_Impact_Draw_Modifier: (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Weapons.tbl#.24Piercing_Impact_Draw_Modifier:) which acts as a multiplier of the draw limit for a specific weapon. In this case I need the Artillery gun to hit stuff with penetration effects at 100% health, and I don't want anything else to do the same, so I need to get the modifier to work...

Please check again. Someone forgot to add the tbl options.
In Armor.tbl, use "+Weapon Piercing Effect Start Limit:" to define when piercing effects are going to start.
Basically, what you need to do is to create an "Artillery" damage type, create an armor class that always displays piercing effects when hit by a weapon with that damage type, and then apply it to all relevant ships.

Right now it's a Hecate, the proper Tiigran capships don't fly yet. The ships using these weapons will range from mile long Frigates with 2 turrets, 2 guns each to 2 mile long battleships, with 6 turrets, 3 guns each. These guns are the equivalent of big beams on GTVA and Shivan ships.

This will be a what they call a 'strategic bomber'. The upper missile tubes will contain bombs that are unique to this ship class. These bombs will also be used as multiple warheads inside cruise missiles, but more on that later. :p

New effects for the Bardiche Flak gun.
The shrapnel does damage if it hits, so it's not only there for eye candy.

The flak projectiles show up a French type of grenades named as "Katetche" .....a really very effective and brutal projectile. May be it´s the answer to the accuracy of the Shivans.

T-MB Clibanarius, height x width x length: 28.73x49.11x67.44 [m]. It does have large wings sticking out of it, so the hull is only a fraction of the total size.
Ursa length: 41 meters according to fswiki.
Don't know how big the UEF bombers are, so I can't compare to those...

Well there's a bunch of WIP stuff, some nearly ready.
The only things that aren't started yet are containers, noncombat ships, carriers, and maybe 1-2 other things, but I already have an idea of what they should look like.
The Clibanarius is the last strike craft for the Tiigran-Merisst that had to be added in game, so expect a corvette or some other big thing coming in the next update.
I'll also use the help, thanks for the offer. If you could do UV mapping and converting for capships I'll send you stuff to do once in a while.
@crizza: Start with a ship that has 100-200 polygons. It could be a drone or a missile or something, then work on the big stuff.
If you can't get anything done with Blender, try a different program.

BengalTiger, would I be correct in thinking that the texturing isn't done on the Bombard? Looking, I noticed it still has lines on it that show the edges of the mesh.

Glad to see this stuff still going on :) DeltaV, that is part of the look of what a Tiigran-Merisst ship is. It's still evolving I know and their ships have very dense armor made of material I cant remember what it was. But mostly stronger than what your used too in Terran or Vasudan and even in Shivan craft to some extent. They rely mostly on Stealth technology far more than any of the other races and have excelled in that.
I'm gonna shut up as I don't want to say much more :)

Just looked thru the intro tbl.'s, realized that a Hussar has the same number of hitpoints as an Ursa. Heavy armor indeed.

The Clibanarius is a generation newer than the Hussar, it'll replace the Cuirassier which was featured in the Intro (not that I want to spoil anything :P ).
As for the Bombard- I worked on the textures a bit, but the model still isn't good for LOD 0. It's also the end of semester for me, so I may fall behind in replying here, and modding in general.
When I'm done with my projects and exams, I'll upload all the stuff on the Freespacemods forum, and let all who are interested in further development have access to the files.
I'll let y'all know when I get it done so nobody misses anything.

A missile silo...
The largest variant has 9 missile tubes in it.
It'll be armed with pretty dayum big anti-capship, subspace capable cruise missiles that carry multiple warheads.
This also means I'm working on a few new ships which will carry such things (including an all new class of warship: the T-MAs, or Tiigran-Merisst Arsenal ship).
These ships won't be able to target enemies from a subspace jump away, so the role of "artillery observer" who TAGs the remote target still exists in the Tiigran Navy.

I'd say more like Trident ballistic missiles.
They'll have a detonation radius set so they blow up automatically at a set distance from the target and spawn a few warheads when they do. I'll also have to figure out how the subspace missile strike works...
The missiles will be pretty big, probably larger than the big bombers...
Feel free to PM the sketches, I already made a ship or 2 based on other people's concept art/models.

For those who weren't around when the Gendarme was built:
A gunship is a ship that's the size of a bomber (this one's around 10x49x50 meters height x width x length) which is tasked with giving fire support for smaller strike craft as well as defending larger ships.
The Dragoon's main weapons are med-long range missiles and 2 Flak guns (standard, optional weapons will be available), backed up by a second missile bay and 4 normal size primary guns.
The ship also has 3 turrets to compensate for its slow turn rate.

The strike craft are done, with the T-MB Clibanarius ( http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/818/21267395.png , height x width x length: 28.73x49.11x67.44 [m]) being the largest.
The future updates mostly will contain designs that are getting bigger and bigger, ranging from cutters through frigates to supercarriers over 2 miles long.

Since I'm recently busy with the unimpressive task of building standardized turrets for T-M capships, I don't have any good screenshots to post.

AFAIK the FS Open engine doesn't allow the gun barrels to recoil, but TotT will feature shockwaves from firing guns.
I'm planning to build a miniature version of this for gunships. The pilot will have a choice to go with the Flak guns that burst into shrapnel seen a few pages ago (described as 'firework weapons') or an anti-armor gun which not only shakes the screen a bit, but will also rock the whole ship off its flight path.

This time I'd like to introduce two Tiigran-Merisst cutters and a destroyer escort.
The cutters are small capships. By small I mean 130 meters long.
The first one, T-MCu Lewes, is an older design, now used either as a civilian convoy escort or heavily armed military transport/shuttle- as seen in this scenario.
It's armed with 4 turrets positioned to give a very nice field of fire.

The second ship, T-MCu Bodiam is a modern ship. Its 2 missile silos are armed with 2x Arquebus extended range missiles and 1x Bombard torpedoes. These ships will be found escorting convoys or capital ships as seen here, on long range patrols, or as fire support platforms to assist light offensive operations.

The third ship is the new destroyer escort, T-MDe Kremlin. The main difference between it and the older Iwakuni is the replacement of the big gun turrets up front with missile launchers. The Kremlin is now more a defensive/recon vessel than its predecessor, so a more anti-bomber weapons load out than big guns that can't reliably hit SB Seraphims is preferred.

"Fire down normals" subsystem flag forces weapons in the turret to be fired along the turrets normal. However there are additional limitations to the firing when this setup is in use. For example unless proper Ai_profiles.tbl flag is used then a secondary (roughly 74 degree for non-heat seekers and roughly 90 for heat seekers) firing cone is used.

BP uses vertical launch systems, but all I found is that there are no flags on the turrets in ships.tbl and no flags on the weapons, which pretty much means I'm looking in the wrong places...

Yes you are. Put $Swarm: on the weapon (might be set to 1) and it'll fire down the normal. Don't spam those though, there's a limit on how many swarms can be in game at any given time.

So thaaat's how it works...
These are big fish, there will be a max of some 6 turrets firing them from a single ship (one that's about a nautical mile long) with the previous volley long gone and forgotten when the next one fires, so I don't think I'll cross the spam limit.
There is another problem however- using $swarm makes the missiles enter subspace, then there is an empty warp near the target, but no missiles...
They apparently get lost in subspace somewhere.
Anyone ever get swarm subspace missiles that spawn bombs near the target to work properly?

Yup, last time I tried I ended up getting empty warps when they were supposed to exit subspace their target.
Edit: It's a bit late here, I'll dig up and post the missile and all other required .tbl files tomorrow, with its model set to have the Helios and the bombs being whatever so no models are needed so you could give it a look/try, maybe I didn't get everything right....

Hm, might want to consult with the #scp guys as to why that's happening, unless you did something weird like having your detonation distance from target be greater than the warpin distance in which case I can see it failing.

I've had my own set of problems with spawn (MIRV-style) torpedoes, though I didn't try to make them SSMs, too. Somehow, the main warhead always detonated on launch. This might be fixed though, I need to check with most recent builds.

Had the same thing, don't remember the fix, but somehow I did it- only to have missiles that manage to warp out, but don't warp in.
IIRC having the missiles as HEAT seekers did make everything work, but then the bombs didn't inherit the target the cruise missile was fired at or something... I'll have to look through that again, I didn't work on that specific problem for a couple months.

I should get the frigate (actually- frigates, both share a common hull but differ in weapons and stats) running in a couple days- the only major thing missing is the hull texture.
The battleship still needs details such as windows, then I'll have to UV map the hull (all turrets are ready), and convert it.
Neither has any low poly/placeholder in game.

The hulls are identical, only the turret types and main weapons differ. The Tarascon is the newer unit, and once it's in game I'll take a look at those subspace missiles.

Partially because I like to use the KISS rule, partially because I want to get everything working now, and maybe making it look better later on.
Anyways, the really thin lines showing the polygons will disappear, so the maps will look a bit better when I get done with them now.

Slowly, a group of random polygons, cuboids and drilled out holes becomes the hull of the T-MCa Carcassonne, seen here between the battleship hull, and a corvette and frigate on the other side.
It's just over 3800 meters long (compared to the 3200 meter BB, 1600-ish meter Fg and 550 meter Cv) and it'll be the biggest moving object built and used by the Tiigran-Merisst.
The little black object inside one of its hangars is the T-MB Clibanarius, 28 meters high, 49 meters wide and 67 meters long.

So the carrier hulls are fully modeled.
Windows are practically invisible due to their relatively small size on the ships- the carriers are 3812 (T-MCa Carcassonne; big guy with 4 hangars) and 2938 (T-MCa Pierrefonds; Homeworld Kushan Carrier style with wider and flatter front) meters long.

Later I'll have tons of UV mapping and converting to do, so it might be quiet here for several weeks, especially since I'm quite busy.

A few secondary turrets still have their rotations borked, and the local Subspace Missiles need a bit of bug fixing as well, but other than that the Frigates are now finished.
Anyways, today is the first time Tiigran Arty is fired by Tiigran capships, and not a Hecate placeholder:

The battleships will have 18 such guns, so I'll have to stage them firing full broadsides when their shared hull gets UV-mapped and they begin existing in FS SCP. What has been published today is just a frigate...

Well, with hundreds of MB of modding (OK, mostly textures, but there's LOTS of assets), why the hell give up now? :P
This might not be an Inferno, but I sure hope it'll be quite a journey into the known, less known and even surprising (the T-M are not the big surprises here- although they're the major new element and main story element, which is why I'm posting a lot of T-M related stuff :P). I will ask the people who were responsible for FREDding to report in by the end of summer, as I'd need quite some time to learn that. :P
I will have to send Swantz a PM one of these days, my account on nukelol is deleted or inactive and I have no way to access that place anymore...

The effects around the gun barrels are bombastic,as i can see. :nod: Did you look at Shadow Genesis or ASW Take 2,Tiger?
The yellow lines on the ships may be are special signs of the Tigris Merists,am i right? :cool:

The signs are pretty much a T-M ID feature, now that I'm playing PlanetSide 2, I think I'll have a little bit of inspiration from these and make the lines a bit more prominent, detailed and maybe animated:

Anyways, today the arsenal ship gets its final details and turrets, so I only have 2 more big objects to model- installations.
After that it's a big UV-mapping marathon of probably around half a dozen hulls.
Then it's support/non-combatant/containers/platforms which should be quick.
