Update on Scotchy's Galaxy Class........
They have managed to blow out the front of the bridge before (in Nemesis, for example). Emergency force fields then activate to protect the occupants. Only after a few ensigns are sucked out, of course.

Saucer separation isn't do-able unless you treat the ship as two entities and have them dock and undock. But then of course you get two entities to target and it looks odd in the targeting window.

Blown out you mean... You are blown into space, not sucked. Must I go over the difference between sucking and blowing?

If you're going to get nitpicky I suggest you look both those words up.  The difference between sucking and blowing is what you consider normal; suction is air moving toward lower pressure (vacuum or near-vacuum) while blowing is air moving away from higher pressure.  So the air is getting sucked out into space, and blowing things along with it if you want to use the terms in their most technical meanings.  Meanwhile, since we can't live in the void, saying someone was sucked out sounds more appropriate. :p

I believe the Galaxy class that is up now has a bridge as a subsystem but I didn't desginated as targetable in the TBL since its useless.

Add an event to the mission that destroys your engines and/or weapons subsystems as soon as the bridge subsystem is destroyed. Or you can simply use the ai-play-dead option from ai-goals

If the ship is stationary you possibly could fake it using the model replacement SEXPs (i.e replace one model with one of just the saucer and warp in a second one to replace the engine section). I've not tried the replacement SEXP's though so I'm not 100% certain how they work.

Well the FS code already allows two ships to be docked together then separate... the trick is to make sure they're docked together in the first place then separate if you want them to...

The problem with that approach is the targeting system only allows you target one half of the ship at a time.  It also means that one half of the ship can be blown up when the two are docked together without affecting the other one.

I'd imagine that the times were it seperates would be as rare as seen in the show, basicly only to show it could do it, so you wouldn't likely have time to see this.

now as for the bridge, the Galixy had a battle bridge, that was used once or twice, it's in the center of the saucer section, I beleve (doesn't have his galixy blueprints handy, I actualy do have them at home :D ), and I do recal sevral unpleasant charicters saying "target their bridge!" for example in the first TNG movie, those couple of Klingon sluts in the bird of prey.

[Nerd mode] It's on the engine section. It's the bridge when the ship seperates [/Nerd Mode]

COOL.  The only time I ever saw the saucer thing seperate was in the movie where the enterprise crashes into a planet killing everyone inside.  Admiral Tolwyn was the guy who made it crash, cuz he wanted to get into a pink cloud.

Was that something they implemented only for the movie?

My God I AM a dork!!! I recognized your Admiral Towlyn (Wing Commander 3) reference!!!

::weeps in shame::

WAIT A MINUTE!!! Why should we be ashamed of our knowledge of pop scifi culture? You know what, for now on, I'll take no shame for being interested in this type of fiction. SCIFI is good sh%*. As long as it doesn't cosume our lives to the point where we wear Kilingon attire.

I never understood the association of being a "dork" or "geek" with scifi. Perhaps it all stems from highschool stereotyped cliques suchas jocks, dorks, nerds.

If Man U fans can stick posters of David Sodding Beckham on their wall, then why shouldn't sci-fi fans stick up Babylon 5 posters or the like? Why is one person 'Normal' and the other a 'Nerd'? ;)

Update on Scotchy's Galaxy Class........
The Enterprise seldom had to initiate saucer-separation, but it certainly happened on more than one occasion prior to the movie.  The instance that most readily comes to mind is the episode with the Echo-Papa-607 supercomputer; I seem to recall the saucer separating during one of the battles against the Borg, as well.

And yeah, I'm a geek.

Edit: For those of you questioning the perils of an exposed bridge, look no further than The Wrath of Khan.  The Enterprise pummels the crap out of the Reliant, firing directly on the bridge on two occasions: on the first, the character heavily-implied to be Khan's son is killed, while on the second, Khan himself is gruesomely wounded.

We have returned to continue our purification of this galaxy. It is again your turn to be crushed beneath the great force that is the Antaran army. All your petty squabbling with the other beings in this galaxy is meaningless. The Antaran fleet will destroy you all, one by one. You may not surrender. You cannot win. Your only option is death.

That was an accident.
They were in a nebula so they couldn't aim.

They never had the intention to hit the bridge! I'm sure they wanted to hit something stupid, as the always do ;)

[NITPICK] Actually, the first time was in open space. The second time they were in the Nebula. [/NITPICK]

It is fairly stupid sticking the command centre on the top of the ship isint it? Almost as bad as a real ship where the Bridge is stuck in a very exposed position...
