Can you edit videos with it? Cut them, rearrange them, add text and music?

It lets you do basic cutting and pasting. I'm not sure if it has any functionality for the other things. It might, but the interface is somewhat clumsy and I haven't really tried out everything in the program.

Windows MovieMaker is a pretty good tool, but it only creates WMV. :-/

Ah, now I remember why I didn't like it.    IIRC, VirtualDub had a pretty quirky way to configure the audio & video compression formats.  Let me check, I might be able to put some instructions regarding its (proper?) use... I converted a file using VirtualDub, I'll have to dig it up...

Well, you could check out this program for conversions: MPEG4 Direct Maker.

Though its name suggests that it can only do MPEGs, I've found it can convert nearly anything into anything else (movie-wise, anyway). The price is a bit steep at $50, but the one-month trial does everything the main prgram does. Also, the overall quality of the conversions is excellent, so, IMHO, it is worth the price.


EDIT: Are we ever gonna get this thread back on the purpose of playing some D2?
