3.6.7 release builds do not handle the modular tables properly. So you should use newer build. Also if you are using new mediavps (3.6.8 somethings) you perhaps ought to use CVS builds Recent builds forum

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application, right?

Just wanted to say thank you for this pack, I've been playing Freespace 2 without any difficulties thus far (aside from a minor issue with refresh rates defaulting to 60Hz in OpenGL). Graphics are pretty, though they chug a bit when the larger ships go boom.

I haven't played Freespace before, so this will sound fairly noobish, but one thing I'm enjoying with the early missions is when a friendly cap ship jumps in and toast the enemies.

Karajorma, I just discoverer something odd which the launcher...

If you move the package to a new pc, when you launch the launcher all option are saved excepting the mod... when you go to the mod tab nad NO MOD is selected, even if you have the mod.ini in the retail folder, the screen apear grey... The mod.ini in the retail folder is not displayed until someone clicks the NO MOD button... so... a new to SCP dont going to see anything there even which the mod.ini in re retail, until clicks the no mod button.

and i trying to give the OpenAL installed, that it the OpenAL32.dll in the FS2 folder, the Failed to read flag file is not given anymore, but the Directs sound cant be inisialised too any idea? or the only way is to register the dll?

I wasn't aware of the issue with the launcher. Still the current launcher's lifespan is limited as Taylor is writing a new one from scratch so it's hardly worth updating it.

Not certain about what to do with the .dll file.

Isn't OpenAL an executable that you install, rather than a DLL that you place in your FS2 folder? I installed OpenAL using the executable, and haven't had too many problems with sound thus far (occassionally the music drops out).

I not trying to give the OpenAL installer, I trying to give the pack ready to use it... Is easy to give the Installer whit the pack and told them to install it first, I tring to give installed but is giving me problems ... anyway i going to se what I can do.

Hey, I hate to ask this, as I know its stupid but...
I played Freespace 2 a couple of years ago, ( the version with no cutscenes and such) but I am looking to play through it again.

I just downloaded and installed the entire torrent file.
It runs great and smooth but I really want to know a few things.

1.  If I wanted to play the game in chronological order from the beginning of the timeline, what is the order I should follow to play.

2.  How do I make sure that I am getting the best possible look out of the game.   Settings, mods etc...

Well a good order should be play the Fs port, then Fs2 main campaing... afer of that you may try Derelict...

First update the Port...

When you select the port their will also use the Mediavps...

When you going to play Fs2 camping you have to select the Mediavps as a mod...

And finally Derelict Mod when you whant to play Derelict


about the settings... well there is not too much to set... the launcher that I give is already setted for max quality, and in that pack have the MV_adveffects.VP used so... is already set.

Ok so the FS Port has the Mediavps, ok I understand that
So i select the Mediavps as a mod even though it does not show any of "mod discription"ect.

Also Im I right in this campain order

Then if I remeber right Derelict which is a fan creation.

Destiny of Peace and Awakenings were both fan-made just like Derelict. Besides, there are far too many independent campaign's going on for there to be an official timeline, except when the people working on a campaign deliberately work within the universe of another mod, like with Sol: A History and Inferno.

Hi all I am a HUGE freespace fan anyway I have freespace 1 and love it and really want freespace 2 but I can not find it any where on CD so I started looking on the web and found "bit torrent" and from there found this forum anyway I tried to download the freespace 2 but it would take about 2 weeks on my dial-up(bout 2kbs a sec ) to download all of it but I've been reading all the posts on this topic and kinda understand "seeding" so I guess my question is how can I use this "seeding" thing to download freespace 2 with out taking two weeks??

Start the download and just let it run... after a few hours/days/whatever your speed will begin to go up and will max out at either your connection's max speed or whatever the seeds configured as their max upload. You probably won't notice much of a difference on dialup, though... you might hit 5k/sec if you're lucky.

Unfortunately Home of the Underdogs is down at the moment which is a pity because their download is the best "no fat" download for FS2, especially for people who will instantly upgrade to SCP. That means that the next best choice is probably www.freespacezone.com as you can get the 3CD retail version there (which would allow you to start playing the game 3-4 days earlier than by downloading ShivanSPS's pack). You could then download and install the SCP enhancements seperately and install once you had them all.

If you want to take this route just shout out if you need more help with it

It took me two weeks to finally download this, and it seems I have run into two problems:

1:  When I try to begin the Freespace 2 campaign, I get the "Insert Disc 2" window.  I saw this asked earlier in the thread with a sarcastic reply; the person who asked the question seemed to have figured it out on his own, but I didn't learn how to solve this for myself.

2:  When I tried to type my username in when Freespace 2 first loaded, the letters did not come out right because Freespace 2 ignored my Dvorak setting and for whatever reason only seems to recognize QWERTY, which truly is a shame.  It's a real pain to reconfigure every key individually so that I can play Freespace 2 (when it finally works).  I'd switch back to QWERTY if not for two problems: first, QWERTY sucks; and second, I get a huge headache when I try to use it.  Is there a way to get Freespace 2 to recognize Dvorak?  Using the keyboard layout switch macro (ctrl+lshift+~) won't work.
