It's probably not discrimination, it's just that most of us (well, at least me) still hate the FS2 Command for the "Avoid The Beams And You Won't Get Hit" Moment.

i preferred the fs2 command, he gave you an order, and you had to follow it to the letter, you failed its your problem. he also gives support to the collossus to destroy the sath.

and the 'you fly into it, what do you expect!', he makes an example if you get it wrong. i always learn from a second mistake thanks to fs2 command.

FS2 command.  I don't like him, but at least he didn't send me into a shivan armada in a broken down fighter, then advise me to dock with the enemy command ship.

Freespace 2 command felt like there was a much deeper plot behind it, whereas Freespace 1 it was just a voice in your head

Which, would've made perfect sense, if command hadn't made it perfectly clear that if you fire one shot, the shivans are gonna say "Hey,lookie there, a broken down dragon with terran weapons.....KILL IT!".

I found him annoying because of the stupid things he told you to do, such as to destroy the Maelstrom's cannon (not a bad idea in itself, but if you didn't, the other idiot got mad at you) or to lure the Shivans to the Renenet before destroying them.

Fs1 command was like the inexperienced space faring command with only it's own experiences to draw upon. Fs2 command was the intermediate experienced space faring command with more than it's own experiences to draw upon and with stuff to hide. I think it's obvious to say and say again command had one hell of a big secret objective in the works.
They knew about bosch and etak, so they probably knew about the knossos much ahead of time, so they probably also had the meson bomb ready to go and appear to be in meer testing

Actually I think FS1 command wanted you to board the Lucy and single handedly destroy it from inside out like in STAR WARS: Dark Forces.
