well i cant say it was horrible. the mechs were sprite based, and i couldnt recognize any of them. the controls are kinda simpler than i would suspect. theres no torso twist for example. if you hold down a (i can only assume its a) then you can move the reticle to aim your guns within the confines of the screen. this lets you target parts of the mech, or mechs that have their jets on. jump jets work in a rather ridiculous way. you turn them on and you can hover for a really long time. enemy mechs like to hover as soon as you get close and go outside of your firing arc, you have to either back off or engage your own jets to shoot at them some more.

weapons take forever to kill something. mrms seem to be the best, but you end up fighting so many mechs that you can run out of ammo. even using 6 (the max number of weapons you can equip) ppcs it takes a long time to kill anything. im kinda stuck on some base defence mission where the base is surrounded by assault mechs and you cant destroy them fast enough to save the base, they destroy it after only a few seconds.

the game is very stingy with mission pay, most of the time they only give you enough c-bills to fix your mech, and you never really make any money. when accepting a mission you have the option of requesting more pay for the mission. if your request is in reason they might give you a little more, but if you ask for too much you will insult them and they offer half the original amount. you usually take so much damage in the mission and end up spending all your pay on repairing your mech, and theres none left for upgrades. to buy a new mech you have to pay it all up front and cant cash in your existing mech to help buy the new one. i usually just sell all the armor, weapons, and equipment to cover some of the cost, then after you have the mech sell the old one to upgrade your weapons.

the game is really hard, i dont think i could beat it without using the save state feature (hell im not even convinced i can beat the game with it). the game allows you to save between missions, but i like save states better.

still it aint bad for an snes game. it makes me want to play the pc version.
