They use it as a source of background noise, so they won't be agitated/disturbed by all the sounds in the night. I don't believe listening to commercials/infomercials while your sleeping is good for your mental stability, however.

RTOS news: figured out that the stack pointer needs to be included in the thread context structures along with the other registers, but now this means I need some method of stack management.

I can sleep near anywhere, on the floor, on a chair, even on the plane. And if I am tired enough, I can fall asleep even if there's noise or lights.
I'm also a sound sleeper. o_o

Remember that level 99 jo-jo from a few pages back? Her flat-mate is a light sleeper.... Apparently I woke her up while getting jiggy in the front room, kitchen, bathroom, hallway, balcony, everywhere except the flatmates room. I dont remember last night but this morning was FREAKIN AWESOME. It just goes to show that my drunken autopilot has a "screw" setting too

but it outperforms sober me

Oh, ffs...

Bandai is totally discontinuing any and all home video sales. That means Gundam is pretty much officially dead in America... come this November every English Gundam release will be out of print.

Another nail in the coffin for American anime releases.

Bandai seems to be of the opinion that the American market is not worth it, and they're unwilling to spend any more money on us. They said they're still willing to license series to other producers, but I rather doubt they'd hand their flagship mecha franchise to anyone else.

Their current plan seems to be to produce any and all further releases in Japan. They are now including English subtitles on most of their releases, and Japanese Blu-Rays are compatible with American players, so they figure that any interested Americans can import those Blu-Rays.

The issue there is Japan's insane prices for anime releases. The Japanese execs simply don't seem to get that Americans simply will not shell out $100 per Blu-Ray disc. But then, they also don't seem to care.

The US distributor Bandai Entertainment, which is a subsidiary of Bandai Visual Japan, has been hanging in there for several years, but they weren't exactly pulling in huge profits after the Western anime bubble burst. By all accounts, their Japanese overlords decided that they weren't really worth keeping running anymore, and so we wound up with the current state of affairs. The fact that Bandai would be ceasing DVD distribution was announced several months ago, but it was only this week that they gave a definitive end date.

No, the announcement last January was that they'd be ceasing distribution of new series. They said at the time they'd keep any series they'd already released in print until the licenses expired.

Now it seems they're reneging on that statement and closing up shop completely.
