I know, it's nuts.  But it's also crazy how many people don't buy a fire extinguisher for their vehicles, too.  Show of hands - who here has a fire extinguisher in their car?

I know we don't
But that's because if our car catches fire, it gives us ample excuse to get a new one

im a safety 27th kind of guy. besides they dont sell an extinguisher that can fit in my shoe. im also more interested in starting fires than putting them out.

I feel like I should have known something about this in passing. So, uh, what happened?

So the Texas Senate tried to practically ban abortion, but Democratic State Senator filibustered for 13 hours until she got removed because of some bogus technicalities. And then, the Republicans tried to vote past midnight, which they did. The Democrats, Internet, and the mob in the gallery protested. Eventually, the Lt. Gov. conceded and said that it failed because it went past midnight. Then the Internet exploded and the crowd cheered. And then the Internet went to bed. I included.

Please, PLEASE tell me there is a rise or berm in the bush that we can't see in the video.  I sincerely hope you aren't firing off 7.62 rounds at cans with no safety backdrop... *looks pointedly at deathfun* ... are you?

The mine location didn't have as significant backdrop in comparison to the other location (in that particular direction), but was far more removed from everything and the tree cover was extremely thick.

Still makes me nervous.  There've been accidents in the past when rounds fired into bush have struck farmers, hunters, and hikers.  If you can control your backdrop you really should.

Also, aren't you from the metro Vancouver area?  What mine site are you guys visiting?

As for accidents occurring, there's nothing you can hunt out there. It's all out of season minus Coyote.

Fair point regardless, hikers are really the only actual concern (farms out located due east at least 15km), though anyone out that late would be hard pressed to make it back safely unless they drove to that location

Shotguns, specifically those firing standard flavors of shot and not slugs, are less of a concern for collateral damage (vs. rifles, pistols, etc.) because the shot tends to rapidly loose its KE after a certain range. Not to mention that the lethality of said rounds also decline the more spread out it is.

Yes, but drag is still applied to the projectile, so even if you fire up in the air and it lands half of its normal firing range, the KE would be much lower.

Actually my point was less so the firing it into the air, but the fact they were all wearing buckets on their heads firing a shotgun into the air and posting it on Facebook

I'm also well aware of the physics behind bullets being fired into the air either directly upwards or at an angle

Can't really make any other comment on it though as I don't know where they were doing it, or the type of ammo they were using for the 12 gauge.
