Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
How many GTA assets (mainly exploration groups, science vessels, possibly installations) were present beyond Ross 128 (say, Luyten or Laramis) about a year prior to FS1? And how much creative license do I have in that respect?

There isn't a lot of information about it, I don't recall. I'd say you have a fair bit of creative license.

W00t!

Well then, there's an installation in Luyten and a fair bit of exploration going on, as well as some subspace experiments which were discontinued after [SPOILEREDACTED].

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
Laramis was explored during or before FS1, and had a fair bit of Terran presence given that the Flail was developed there. We don't really know more than that.

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
IIRC they were returning from the previously unexplored Laramis system, unless I'm mixing that one up with some other weapon. Anyway, if that's right, it pretty much tells you there hadn't been anything (unless maybe unmanned probes don't count, or something)

Unlikely, as a few people have said already Laramis was unexplored before FS1, so I doubt there would be any Terran presence beyond that.

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
Other than the one group of scientists I would imagine the only ships beyond Ross 128 were GTI ships.

The nodes were clearly known. I suspect they were unexplored only in an official sense.

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
Hmmm. In that case I think I'll move the exploration team to Laramis, and maybe a destroyer dropped them off instead of an installation being set up there (It makes sense that even though the system wasn't thoroughly explored, some science teams might want to use it for experiments and developing plot devices). No presence in Luyten or the other FS2-era fringe worlds though.

Also the background I designed works better for Laramis than Luyten anyway. Anyone know what color the Laramis star(s) is/are? apparently it's a fictional system...

also, the Flail sux

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
If you're a traditional primary user, then YES, the Flail does suck.  Many veteran players have found uses for the Flail, combining its long range, high shield damage and low energy consumption for specific mission types.  I think that its also useful for ranged destruction of bombs without worrying about damaging the ship you're trying to protect.

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
The Flail is better than the Morningstar...which eaaaats energy and doesn't even do the good shield damage. (Still good for "safe" bomb interception, and highly annoying when capships use them).

Is that the mission where you bomb the Sol gate and become a pool cueball for the "rapid laser" turrets?

The only thing more annoying than AI with EMP is AI with kickback weapons.

Wasn't there a PI mission like that as well?

Actually I think that its only the second mission, where GTVA is trying to recapture an installation in Delta Serpentis.

I think you guys are talking about the same mission.

Re: Quick question about pre-FS1 GTA deployments
No, the Sol Gate one is a lot different to the Delta Serpentis HQ one.

The Delta Serpentis HQ one is a lot more hellish and horrible and badly designed and stupid.

with a little work on the geometry detail and with help of some one with both good ability and time to texture them properly they both could look really good
