I need a Vasudan name.
He's a Lieutenant (or the Zod equivalent thereof), who was flying some random patrol mission when [REDACTED]. The setting (at least, when [REDACTED] happened) is about a year pre-FS1- naturally, Vasudans have yet to pick up the Egyptian naming scheme since they don't like Terrans all that much.

So, are there any Vasudan names given during FS1 or FS2 that I could extrapolate from? I'm looking through the Wiki pages about FS2 Zod missions for any clues.

Any information on the phonetics of the Vasudan conlang would also be useful.

Re: I need a Vasudan name.
There are very few Vasudans mentioned by name in either game, IIRC.  Emperor Khonsu, of course, one Admiral Khenmu (IIRC the name), and Squadron Commander Khafre.

I think the Vasudan Commodore who attacks the Iceni is given a name, but I don't remember it.

Maybe base it on the limited range of their speech? They've got a lot of HRRR sounds. How 'bout "Hrothgar" ?   :p

Admiral Khafre was the CO of the Psamtik, Commander Habu was the squadron leader.

The who and the what now?

I thought we were looking for Vasudans, not...like, B5 Centauri or whatevs.

Re: I need a Vasudan name.
All of the canon ones mentioned are Egyptian, except for Habu, which is (most notably, at least) a name for several types of snake. This is likely part of the naming scheme that Zods picked up by Khonsu's example.

Any fanon names other than the Cardinal Spear one to go on? I'm going to use that vasudan speech wav as well to get a good idea of their phonetics.

I've always just made random words that sound sufficently Alien and are vaguely pronouncable . I imagine Alien names would be as varied as Human ones are, so i'd vote there's no real need to follow any specific pattern; have whatever takes your fancy.

He is a character you fight during an old (but good) campaign called Cardinal Spear (it was re-released a few years back for FS-Port). I always get visions of the Kilrathi from Wing Commander whenever i hear him talk; i sense the designer might've been inspired by their taunts when doing his.

Yeah it mentions it in the FS2 intel; Vasudans all take an 'Egyptian' name among their Vasudan names, maybe becuase Terrans find the Vasudan language hard to pronounce? Apparently Khonsu had an interest in the Egyptians ('spose even Emperors have hobbies ).
Also goes by 'Murasaki-Tatsu' outside of Hard-Light

I cant remember were it says it but in either FS1 or FS2, it mentions that the Vasudans identify with ancient Egypt and that's what started the human name thing, I think its mentioned around the time of the cease fire coming into effect in the first game.

Re: I need a Vasudan name.
@headdie: No, that's definitely from FS2... Hence why people are trying to come up with non-Egyptian names in the first place. I mean, seriously, did you think there'd be a whole page of discussion if it were as easy as picking a name from Egyptian mythology?

I like my earlier suggestion, i.e. come up with something within the limited range of what they're capable of pronouncing. Use the Vasudan speech sample (I forget where it is, but maybe someone can point it out to you) for an example.

But no, "Hrothgar" wasn't a serious suggestion.

They're only using Egyptian names for their ship classes and ship names.  That's what the techroom description says.

Horapollo. It's an Egyptian name.

When I need names for Vasudan ships and characters, I play this good old game... there are hundreds of Egyptian names there. :)

Cool, but Pharaoh remains a superb source of names. :) Many of the names I see on that EM list have been already used, so...

Battuta: huh, I wouldn't pronounce Horapollo that way... :nervous:

He could have a brother named Pimpollo.

Re: I need a Vasudan name.
As I've already noted, the Egyptian naming scheme for individuals probably came into place well after the Great War. I'd really only use it as a last resort in a pre-FS1 campaign.

If I could get info on the Zod conlang that would be excellent. Didn't ST:R have their own version of it (that Holonet "Vasudan word of the day" thing)?
