About that rail speed...I'll hold off further comment until trying out the new server (woohoo!), but at least as of last night, the combination of rubber-banding and extreme speed was almost giving me a case of motion-sickness.  Not only that, but I wound up running into three or four empty minecarts along one of the rails, which created a train that eventually wound up grinding to a halt.  I think I wound up with about 7 or 8 extra minecarts in my inventory by the end of the day, so the chest for them in the storehouse is getting pretty full.  Like I said, I'll see how things go this time around.

In other news, I found an rhx clone hovering right outside Trashmania's new train station.  And did anyone else ever wonder about that weird black object on the wall of the cliffs structure while moving from spawn to the storehouse?  I'd always thought it was a sign or painting with some lighting bug going on, but it didn't seem to respond to attempts to hit it.  So I tried digging out the stone around it...and a freaking boat pops out.

Hmm...well, things are working much more smoothly now, but I did run into one or two lines marked as "completed" that didn't seem to be boosting properly.  That coupled with the random minecarts I've found lying along the tracks means that I'm still getting plenty of extras.  I also have to wonder how the new system works if you're coming in manually with your own cart...will you still wind up at the central station?

To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the whole rapid-transit concept.  I mean, it's really cool from a technical standpoint, and I know rhx has put a ton of work into it...but I dunno, it seems to take most of the fun out of getting around the world.  I remember first joining the server and being overwhelmed by the different rail lines, which meant that I wound up randomly cruising around them, finding all sorts of cool things people had built.  I felt a sense of accomplishment when I finally had most of the system down, but the new system removes even the possibility of that.  In addition, the fact that you're whizzing by everything so fast means that it's very difficult to hop out if something you're passing happens to catch your eye; I wound up finding a lot of cool spots that way.

BEHOLD! Minecraft is becoming like central London, sans the perpetually late public transport, random muggings and black people* congestion charges.

Hmm...well, things are working much more smoothly now, but I did run into one or two lines marked as "completed" that didn't seem to be boosting properly.
I agree we still have had afew boosting problems, but they were on the line with boosters that were spaced out at the maximum possible to save resources, and as such with faster carts seemingly needing more power, this wasn't working. We have rolled out boosters both double in frequency and ammount on the place of line that we found was effected thisafternoon.

The carts were most likely me testing, as carts entering the system through a normal way *should* not collide with other carts.

I also have to wonder how the new system works if you're coming in manually with your own cart...will you still wind up at the central station?
You will either end up at the central station under spawn (most likely) or new trashmania station, which has platforms for all the destinations central station has. However, I am working on sorting this slowly.

I understand what you're saying  :) but in reality most new players just get warped to "cool stuff" and I think that most inter-area transport these days seems to be done with warps. I thought a fast, automatic railway gives the convenience of a warp, but still feels legitimate and does give more of a view of the server than a simple warp.

I also found the system of picking up carts, then having my cart accidently derp off down the line whilst trying to get into it rather irritating, (while trying to switch lines) so I thought this also solves that problem.
I would like carts to be normal speed, buf if we are to cut back on warps without having to take say 10 minutes to get from for ex trashmania2 to fenris the carts NEED to be fast to prevent frustration.

The slow cart network was good, but never really used for serious, regular transportation.

If you have any problems with boosting etc please make a note of which line, and about where it is so we can investigate and solve the problem.

Hmm, come to think of it, the tunnel areas are great for super-speed, but above area could perhaps be slowed down just a little as a compromise. The high speed is definitely great though, much more tempted to use it. Of course with this new convenience for players to access our areas without exploration it could be harder to get them to go out and explore by themselves, so that's something that could be looked in to as well.

I'm impressed by all the work done in such a short amount of time though, RHX and Qaz. Don't overwork yourselves. ;)

Thanks for breaking that down, rhx.  If it sounded like a grumpy old man ranting...well, I've had many people tell me I sound like a grumpy old man. :p I think you're right in that most people will probably just warp around anyway, so having this new network will provide an in-world alternative.  I think the rail line I managed to get stuck on most recently was the one to Old Trashmania, if that helps.  I do like JC's idea of toning down the speed somewhat on above-ground portions of the network, if that's possible; that way, we get the benefits of rapid transit while still being able to enjoy the scenery.

Hmm, i've never had a problem with that line before.
There is a major speed problem on the return line from new trashmania/JC's which we are working round the clock to fix.
Once that's sorted I'll nock back the speed of the surface/elevated lines to allow for scenery viewing.

Err just tried opening one of my chests with some string in my hand, and a message came up saying "Worldguard: No defined regions here!"
Doesn't happen when I have something else in my hand though.

EDIT:
Also I still seem to be lagging quite a bit :\

Good news though, I found a nether stronghold, with a blaze spawner in it :3
I made a trail from the fenris portal (or mine, they link together it seems) to it.

EDIT 2:
Made some eyes of ender and they seem to be leading me to a spot near the fenris...which seems kinda odd since the fenris land would have been generated with 1.7.3. Probably better if someone with creative and unlimited eyes does it. Also there's no cave view on dynmap anymore, so I can't see whats there.

EDIT 3:
Ok server is being weird. There's mobs spawning inside my well lit house, and when if I log out, when I log back in I'm not in the same spot and my inventory is old. So seems like the server isn't saving my data, however stuff I put in chests gets saved, which means I can clone items if I want o.O

I had mobs spawning inside my house earlier too, which was kind of weirding me out.  I don't think that ever happened before today since the 1.0 upgrade.  Nice job with the nether stronghold, though, I'm definitely hitting that up.

Edit:  Oh what the hell.  I was derping around in the Nether for a good half-hour, and I'd managed to find the Blaze spawner and get my first Blaze Rod.  I even took out two Ghasts with arrows, which I thought was pretty badass.  Then the server boots me out, and when I come back in, I'm back in my house, with my inventory back to how it was before I started...oh, except for the fact that the newly-crafted armor I'd been wearing had vanished, as had the iron I'd used to craft it.  And I lost the Blaze Rod too.  To add insult to injury, the damn thing doubled up my minecart again.

I noticed the bugs that Mongoose and Grimper describe, this seems to be a bug introduced in 1.0; I noticed it in the old server. I didn't know it could be abused though.. hope it doesn't lead to any trouble.

Also, I've had a group of mobs spawning inside the underground areas of my Keep, which was quite well-lit. Checked the top of the trees but it was not dark enough to spawn. Not just creepers, it was spiders and zombies. Annoying potential there if a enderman decides to rearrange things.

I'm certainly glad the blocks have stopped respawning a moment after I break them with a pick or otherwise, while it was funny for the first few times it became kind of a gripe as I effectively had to re-remove entire sections of walls again because the packets never arrived. A bit of TNT solved that but I only had a few for the occasion.  Now it's solved due to a better, stable server I'm quite happy indeed. :)

Actually it's much better than that. Now, instead of blocks disappearing when you place them, the server lets you think everything is fine so you go build something cool. Then, the server kicks you, and when you come back, everything you did has been wiped D: (except for any blocks you put in a chest, they get saved)

D: I don't get it. Also any idea whats causing the server not to save player data? And is there any way to fix the screwed up biomes?

QAZ tried to do a render all in dynmap and it hit the disk space limit, meaning nothing could be saved.
some stuff (dynmap images) has to be deleted in order to get it running again.
