[Brachra]

My game runs fine for a few minutes,
then all of a sudden it speeds up seemingly infinitely,

I.E. i was playing the first mission (after training missions)
started out okay, and then literally within 8 seconds, the Mission was Completed

All the voice dialog and enemy ships zipped past so fast i maybe blinked 5-6 times through the process
And it was over,

I had this problem once before in Painkiller, the game ran at like 8500000000 FPS it was insane,

anyway, i dont know where else to post this So if anyone could help that would be great

but now its stuck it went through this long process of what seemed like installing/downloading things

1: Edit your above post to put all the DXDiag information into [ code ] [ /code ] (without spaces). This will help make it easier to read.

2: Windows 7 and Vista both have a problem with UAC and files in "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files(x86)". I would Recommend putting the GoG install of Freespace 2 into a folder like "C:\Games\Freespace2" This way any changes to the files won't encounter the UAC issue.

3: Direct Link to the 3.6.12 Final Release executable thread. In there you will find links for downolading the latest stable version of the FSO Executable and the Launcher to run it. (I Recommend the Inferno SSE2 Bulids)

4: Direct Link to the latest MediaVPs Release thread. There are two posts there. One has the initial Release files, the second some patch Update files. Get the files from both posts. They will extract (or should automatically) when pointed at your Freespace2 dir into a "MediaVPs_3612" folder.

5: Point the launcher.exe at the 3.6.12 Release build "fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe" and the MOD tab to "MediaVPs_3612". Configure you screen resolution and some optional settings. To start, "Enable specular", "Enable glowmaps", "Enable Environment Maps", and "Enable normal maps"

6: Run and enjoy, or report back here with any issues.

I forget what the default keys are but in the bottom right corner of the screen there's a little box that says x1 at the start of the mission. If you get the speed up and it says x2...x64 you'll know that's the problem. Just press F2, go into the key configuration screen and set the time settings (I think they're on the misc tab) to something you won't hit accidentally.

There's a good chance there's nothing wrong with his install and he's just accidentally using the time controls by mistake.

I forget what the default keys are but in the bottom right corner of the screen there's a little box that says x1 at the start of the mission. If you get the speed up and it says x2...x64 you'll know that's the problem. Just press F2, go into the key configuration screen and set the time settings (I think they're on the misc tab) to something you won't hit accidentally.

Ooh, I remember this when I first played FS2 retail - I always restarted the mission since I couldn't figure out what had happened. After too long a time, I finally reckoned it would be a good idea to look at the controls section in the options...I was only 11...
