Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
Feeling a bit too tired at the moment, but thought I'd make a thread for this anyway. I'm having problems with the new installer. I get this message when trying to run Blue Planet/the version of FRED that comes with Blue Planet:

Web cursor bitmap not found.  This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
   1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
   2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation, e.g. by modifying or removing the retail VP files;
   3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.  (Note that installing FreeSpace Open does NOT remove the need for a FreeSpace 2 installation.)
Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the FreeSpace Open executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder.  Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling FreeSpace 2.

Can someone tell me what I've done wrong here? Again, I'm fairly tired, so I don't feel like going and trying to fix this myself. I will do this later, though.

Well, if you can't be bothered to try to understand the error message, I can't be bothered to help you. The second error is one of the most verbose ones the engine gives out, and even contains hints you should check.

Well, can't be bothered right now. I've gone and memorized the errors, I just feel too tired at the moment to do anything complex. I should actually go and take that nap I was going to have 2 hours ago.

Re: Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
What is there to not understand? The error says the exe doesn't see a FS install, which means you pointed the BP installer at the wrong folder. Move the blueplanet and blueplanet2 folders, and the 3.6.17 exes, into your FS folder.

Re: Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
Well, yeah. Anyway, I feel better now so I'm going to go see what happens.

Addendum: You've forgot something about your "advice": namely, if I copy the blueplanet folders and 3.6.17 exes to my FS2, the blue planet builds can't access their data because the data is in another folder and therefore all the ships/data/whatever don't show up, and therefore I can't play the mod.

Seriously, are you just that ****ing unattentive? No, I don't care right now if this offends you - but I really don't care right now. "uhh just put into yur rateil freespaec folduh lol" is an accurate summary of how utterly unhelpful what you just  said is.  :banghead:

Re: Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
Okay. Let me ask you a simple question. Did you read the install instructions? And if yes, did you encounter anything in them that you were unable to understand?

Secondly, did you set BP as the active mod in your launcher?

Re: Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
Yes to all of that. I got it working anyway, although I need to do something to fix the 'tech entries not appearing' thing. By going and just chucking the BP1&BP2 folders into my main FS2 folder, surprisingly, it actually worked. Kinda.

This is why I keep ideas that I think are stupid in mind - just in case it actually does work.

Edit: Also, I understood the instructions, but I'm getting the idea that there's something else I need to do. I think I'll try reinstalling, and if that doesn't work, I'll try installing it manually.

Also, I noticed all I got when I tried to play the AoA campaign was a crash. Strangely, there was no log produced. I also got a "WiH R1 has stopped functioning" after I swapped the campaign back to WiH. I find this very strange.

Re: Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
Okay, what OS are you on? Because if you have to blatantly disregard all modding safety rules (Rule 1: Never, EVER, put mod vps in the same directory as the retail vps), it suggests to me that you're either on Windows and not following the instructions correctly (which I find somewhat hard to believe, given that the instructions for that are "Run the installer, point it at your FS2 directory, open Launcher, select BP build and BP as active mod, play"), or on Linux/MacOS and missing the mod.ini files, or on Linux/MacOS and trying to start it all from the commandline.

Re: Can't really be arsed to go fix this myself
I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit. This is why I keep getting that idea that I've missed something. Blue Planet should run fine, since I did it correctly as according to the installation instructions, and it didn't work for some reason and gave me the errors I put in my OP. So then I went and chucked the BP folders into my FS2 folder, and for some reason that worked, so I'm not sure what's happening here. Also, the mod/mods worked without me moving the data folder into the retail folder. Just so you know.

Could you just post a debug log or a screenshot of your FS2 dir and Blue Planet folders please

I'll grab you a screenshot. For some reason, this didn't produce any logs.
