They've released the first poster. Is it just me or is that Picard?

I hope that's not a Romulan... it looks way to... colorful.

It's not Picard as Picard,...it's a clone from what I've heard.

In honor of this event/release/catastrophe/anticipation/post I am declaring today No Pants Day.

Actually, I declared that in advance yesterday, but you can never have too much of a good thing.

I love summer vacation.

Bump, and no, I don't care how long it's been. :D

Just saw the movie for the first time. They never released it here, so I had to wait for the DVD. :hopping:

ANYway... I'll have to sleep on it, but my first reaction was that, ignoring the plethora of plot holes, it was a decent movie. Not quite as good as most even-numbered ST movies have tended to be, but definitely better than the odd-numbered ones. :p

I liked how they didn't skimp on space battle shots... "We've exhausted our supply of photon torpedoes, sir!"

B4.... oy vey - bad sense of humor. :p

Was it just me or did they decline to explain all those telepathic abilities that the viceroy had? And what's with the Remans?? They're supposed to be Romulans!

......aren't they?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

  • What the hell are you lookin at?
I believe the remans are the original inhabitants of the system. while the romulans coming from vulcan "invaded" with their superior telepahic abilities and dominanted the remans.

  • I'm a magic man, I've got magic hands.
The movie itself was good, but as a part of the ST timeline and a possible ending for the TNG series, I sucked.

Felt waay too much like a double episode, introducing a bunch of new people for no reason other than to kill them.

Too Long, Didn't Read

Sandwich, an explanation for the plot holes: The movie was originally longer. But it was too long and the action was slow. So they released what is pretty much a condensed version, cutting a lot of fluff, but also some stuff which I feel was pretty important to the plot.

Does the dvd have it all edited in or is it seperate?

Offline Grey Wolf

Not sure. I have it sitting right next to me, but I haven't watched it yet. I got all the stuff in my last post from an article.

When I saw it the first time, I was confused. Probably because it had so many errors and plot-holes, I couldn't think straight. Second time around on DVD It grew on me some more. Apart from the holes and DELETED scenes (that would've MADE the movie far better!) it's not that bad. The Battles are also very sweet, and there was some nice moments - Those including the Wedding, the Planet Chase (as stupid as it was), the Romulans getting owned and Data saying "Goodbye" *sniff*

I also liked the look on Picards face when the Romulans showed up. Was a really tense moment, especially with the synth and ambient "engine" sound - Just something about that little moment that was dark, sadly they we're there to help :P

The possibily of another Trek movie is almost zero, but I think there is a new possibilty with Enterprise. Enterprise is set to finish before the Romulan Wars, after it's Seven-Year run (if It gets one). So unless it goes over seven years, a movie based in/around the Romulan Wars would be great, no? With the right kind of direction, writing, drama and specials - Would be like a B5 movie ;-)

Data dying was a demand from Brent Spinner. He said that he'd only participate in the movie if Data died, since he thought that he's too old to keep playing the character (considering that Data isn't supposed to age).
Probably away. Contact through email.
