While compiling pre-existing assets for my mod-campaign, I indiscriminately imported INFR1's entire supply of models and maps. However, I'm only gonna use about 50% of the ships in there. So my mod folder currently has a ton of maps and models I don't need. I'm trying to clear out the unused ships.

The tables tell me which .pof models goes with which ship, but not which maps go with which .pof files, and some of the map names aren't clear. What's the best way to tell which maps go with which ships?

Anyway... opening the model in PCS2 and opening the "textures" section in the hierarchy on the left will tell you what textures it uses. Also there's that mod folder cleaner thing, which I think checks for unused textures (don't have the link, sorry). But seriously... INFR1? Unless I'm thinking of a totally different release, a lot of those ships are kinda crap even by 2000-era standards, to say nothing of 2013 2014.

Ya, I'm learning :P

I'll check this modpack cleaner out, see if it helps.

As for INFR1 ships, don't use that crap. Most of the INFR1 models are buggy, they are horribly low-poly and in fact - just ugly. If you need big collection of ships, just collect them from various modpacks and resources. It's better idea than using INFR1.

  • The sky is the limit.
In theory, you can use INFR1 ships as placeholders until better versions are available with the new Inferno. Though you'll need to make sure that they didn't get dropped (a lot of ships did).

The thing is, I have to work with my own skill set.

Plotwriting: Learned Pre-HLP.
FREDing: Pretty decent, getting better every time I open FRED
Technical stuff (like this): I'm learning, hence my third help me thread this week, but thanks to everyone I getting past the hurdles.
Modeling: I don't have the skill or time.

The problem is, I needed a big selection of ships, including SOC ships, that worked. I'm trying to avoid modeling or modifying new models both because it's hard and because it would make the project take too long- the more I try and do, the less likely it is to get released. In my case, story is the top priority, and gameplay is a close second. Graphical quality is a low priority. (I will, however, be retabling some of them)

I know that INFR1 ships work (have gun and missiles points installed on the models, have camera viewpoints, have shield meshes, et cetera) because they've been used. Downloading random ships off the user-made ships page would leave me with a lot of incomplete ships that I don't have the resources to fix. No other mod has the set of ships I need- BP lacks Vasudan ships, Nukemod's ships use bizarre mechanics I'm not interested in using... there's only half a dozen or so actually released packs with large ship selections, and all of them have big holes except Inferno. If it's good enough for Sol: A History, it's good enough for me.

Finally, like I said, I'm not using everything in INFR1. The campaign isn't long enough for that :P So I can pick out and junk the worst models.

I can personaly help you with the models, retexturing, debugging them, make them fit to your needs. HTL versions of Icelus, Boreas and Tereus are included in the modpack od Shadow Genesis. If you need more high-quality terran ships, planets, nebulas and other graphics, SG modpack might be the thing that you want. Maybe I don't have a lot of time, but maybe I can provide you some help with your modpack.

Hm... tempting. I'll definitely take a look at Shadow Genesis.

For spoiler reasons I don't want to post a complete list of the Inferno ships I need here, but maybe by message? Generally speaking:

GTA: All fighters and bombers, all cruiser-through-destroyer capships, and the Warlock carrier.
GVA: All fighters and bombers, all cruiser-through-destroyer capships, and the Tannen carrier.
Additional factions are too spoiler sensitive.
