Anybody here has Halo for the PC? I'm having trouble with the damn Flood. There is one part where I am following this stupid floating blue sphere called the Monitor and he goes off the unlock the door, so I wait. THen the Flood comes out from two directions and the door behind me closes. I'm like trapped in a small room with tons and tons of Flood coming at me. I only have a shotgun and the assault rifle.

Did any on of you guys here complete the PC version yet?

Pull! Bang!... you have ammo, use them... shotgun being the best, and trade the assault rifle for a Plasma rifle too..

and that blue sphere is 347 Guilty spark..

Easier said than done, Turnsky. The big guys I acn handle. Its the small ones that are hard to kill. There's too many of them and I have only about 50 plus shotgun ammo. Can't possibliy last that long, right?

Covenent weapons are cool as in that they are more damaging than the standard assault rifle (and more accurate too) but you cannot recharge it and it overheats too easily.

okay.. small flood, you can get away with letting a few get to you, assault rifle pops them like nothing else, when you get a carrier, (big pulsating thing) shoot at that when it gets amongst a group... *BOOM*..;)

I sincerely hope that you are playing on something higher than easy...

On the XBOX, that one room is easy.  Lots of them, small space, shotgun.  It gets much harder later on in that level, and then wait until the last level...

PS: I did that entire level on one load of shotty shells, so dont complain.

Is it? The big walking ones are easy to kill with one shotgun blast at close range. The small ones are all over the place. On the floor, on the cellings, on the walls...sometimes, I get fed up and just lob a grenade in any direction.:)

WAIT! I got past this part rather easily (well after a few tries i got past it rather easily)
the way i did it was to stock up on ammo and run the blast doors that close up on you. There is a smal "alcove" on either side of the door.
if you camp in there it forces the flood to come at you in smaller numbers cuz they only have 1 way to get to you.

Hey, you're talking to the guy who got the FS2 demo running on a Pentium-233MMX with a 4MB S3 card. 3D acceleration required? Yeah, right! :p

Anyway, if it doesn't work, I'll just burn the install file and take it to my friend's house... his computer is substantially better than mine. :D

So, how low can I turn these detail settings?

In halo you can turn most of the affects down or off.
If you want to get good performance turn down most of the stuff.

unfortunatly
Halo's pixle shaders use alot of rescouces... ud need a ****load of Vram and Ram to handle them all

i just turn them off. HALO looks but ugly but i get a clean +30 FPS in multiplayer.

for single player i use the old 1.1 shaders and that helps cuz there is less action..

Guess what? I finally got through that damn room. Real stupid actually. I just retreated into one of those small holes in the opposite wall facing the two holes where the Flood would come out from. Funny thing is, the Flood didn't come out at all. Well, maybe a few of those small Flood things but I popped them with my assauly rifle. After waiting awhile, the blast doors opened and I dashed through. That was when the Flood came out from those two holes. Apparently, the game is programmed to release the Flood if you are a certain distance from the holes. If more than that, the game will never release them. Bug there.

Currently at the stage when I have to disable the second generator. Now its like a free-for-all. Covenent fighting Flood fighting me. Loads of fun for everyone.

The little ones are easy to kill. Just wait until they are close together and fire off a shotgun round.

its not a bug, the flood wont spaw if you are in view of their spawn points. it was programmed that way

don't even bother with the infections if you are on easy or normal... keep your attention on the combat forms, shoot the carriers as soon as you see them, and DON'T use plasma greneades! they could get stuck to a jumping combat form and blow you up too... keep the shogun an AR is you are on easy or normal, but anything higher, ditch the AR... even a human pistol is beter because 2 shots anywhere on any form of flood WILL kill them, whereas the AR takes up to half a clip... back up while fighting thm, keeping them spread thin, and toggle between your weaopns... if you shoot a carrier directly in front of you, run backwards and jump at the same time to gain the best distance from them... reload as often as possible, especially the shotgun... some of the human combat forms will have a rocket launcher... kill them quickly, but leave the launcher behind, as its no use to you... when you reach one of the 10 sets of security doors, watch the hole up top as it first opens, as sometimes (especially at the end) combat forms will sail through them... Skeet shooting anyone? :p each time you get off an elevator, be ware that there are going to be dozens of carriers dropping down around you endlessly... on a lot of points, the flood will respawn endlessly keeping you pinned down, unless you keep traveling past the spawn point... if your shields drop, run... a single infection can take you down without your shield... make sure you don't get surrounded, and be aware that the longer it takes you to move through the level, the greater the chances that you'll run out of ammo, die, or encounter much worse odds in the ending of the level, which is hell by itself...

*prays to the computer game god for the release of Halo tools*

"Wacky Races" Warthog style anyone ?

an easy way to kill bad guys (X-Box version) is to shoot them a couple of times and whack 'em with the butt of your gun.

the easiest way is to peg them in that special spot in the head with the pistol :D

If you have an ATI card, the DX9 effects present are no problem at all.  If you have an FX card (with the 5900 as a possible exception), be prepared to turn the effects off.

I've got my 9700Pro, Athlon 2700+, and 512mb PC2700 RAM running this thing with top everything and its pristine gameplay.  I know my rig is good, but the video card is very dependant in this case.

For all the naysayers, its an issue with DX9 performance on nVidia cards.  The new drivers are supposed to help...but they aren't out yet.
