Re: A celebration of Freespace
That polished metal look is amazing but the Artemis is not the ship to use it on.

Yeah, the gloss is overdone on that one. I couldn't help myself because most other ships I'd looked at had such noisy normal maps that you can't possibly make them look polished without them becoming a noisy mess of bright specks of light.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Since there's friction in space in FreeSpace (fighter coasts to a stop when you turn off the throttle), I'm not too surprised that weathering can occur on spacerocks like that as well :P

I realize this is digging up a relatively old post, but...

 :wtf:  Really?
You went out of your way to quote and write an entirely-out-of-context reply to a joke from last year?

... :banghead:

This is what I get for speeding though a thread just to ogle the pretty ships.  I had NO IDEA that what you said was a joke. :nono:  For shame...

Time for DE to join the PBR bandwagon. The HDR looks great on it. My reworked maps? Not so much....

You know, one thing I always thought Homeworld should probably get around to touching on eventually: all these giant wrecks and Progenitor spaceships and stuff.

If I walk amid the tombs of the gods, at some point I will ask: what killed them?

OOOOH Shineh.

I can't help but be distracted by just how bad the radar icons are, though.
The Great War ended 30 years ago.
Our elders tell stories of a glorious civilization; of people with myths of humanity everlasting, who hurled themselves into the void of space with no fear.

So I was going to take a few screenshots for the April screencap contest. However thanks to Shivan Hunter's PBR build, I found myself hitting the Prt Scr button few more times then necessary. Here's some extras shots that I didn't think made the cut but too beautiful to be thrown in the trash.

If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong

Did anybody make an in-game video for this PBR build?

I tried recording some videos to show, but I eventually used up all my harddrive space... given up.

On the other note!

Try running JAD (the newest!) with HDR (PBR whatever) build :>

And how it completely doesn't work due to JAD relying on custom shaders and PBR relying on updates to the built-in shaders?

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again

<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"

<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Well, what I meant, it doesn't work in any way, and you get strange dark/red effects all over the place, making it completely unplayable.

So yes, it completely doesn't work... that's the point I've written.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Yeah, I'm aware of the issues. It's the downside of being too different and crazy. I've bribed asked Swifty to make sure that JAD will be able to work with the new rendering stuff.

But when it does get working...
