Actually, yes.

I was inside the hull (thanks to the non-collision thing that happened when the Lucifer jumped in), and it was either as I tried to enter the fighterbay, or maybe I entered it and then bumped into the wall, but the collision annihilated it somehow.

You can. But the behavior is pretty weird and you don't have any freedom like Track IR/Free Track.

EDIT: answered my own question by looking it up  If I had the money to spare for this toy I'd use it solely for FS2....then again thats the only 'simulation' game I own

Well, if it's acting as a supercarrier / safe harbor sort of thing, Anchorage isn't that bad of a name. It really depends what it does.

Edit:: just because there's a city in Alaska named Anchorage, that doesn't mean that ship is named after the city in Alaska.

And anyway, Colossus is a sillier name.

Wikipedia lists the Anchorage class of ships as dock landing vessels built between 1965 and 1972, with the last of them being decommissioned in 2003.
