so when i went to the beach today for an evening session, there were police, fire, and other assorted emergency personnel EVERYWHERE as i drove up, and when i got onto the sand several boats and a helicopter patrolling. didn't figure out what was going on at the time, but hoping on the internet back home reveals a 10 year old kid is missing, ans surely drowned by now. they haven't found his body yet.
so beach safety tips:
1) if you can't swim/are a poor swimmer, you have NO business going out to far sandbars, no matter how shallow it is or how easy it is to get there. tides change that in a hurry.
2) never go out to rescue someone alone. the woman who got to them first was almost drowned herself by the kids pulling her under. other people got there in time to save them.
3) you're not cool for sneaking up onto the construction pier and jumping off. the reporters don't know who the people who did this were though, maybe they were people trying to help, but it confused the lifeguards and police.
