Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
The thought of being trapped in the press of that many people gave me an involuntary shudder.

I just don't understand how that can be pleasant.  I recognize I'm probably the weird one here, but the whole idea just sets off too many of my personal "NOPE" buttons.  I love music, though.  I can understand the thrill of seeing one of your favorite bands up there playing live, but I think I'm going to have to stick to my stereo and headphones.

Has there ever been a study to find out how much variance there is in how large people define their "personal space" to be?

I suspect dozens. I've mostly seen comparative ones for different countries though.

You can always stay toward the back.  By the time you're around the area of the sound booth, you're not touching anyone.  It was kindof annoying during Shinedown.  They're not really a mosh/crowd surf kind of band, and I was trying to pay attention to the stage but kept getting run over by surfers.  And there were a lot of assholes who came in late but thought they were still entitled to get up front cutting ahead of the people who had been there for hours and gave up seeing the other stages to do so.

Finished this up today. Fun project as I used a mild steel body with high carbon steel in both blade and spike. I tested the spike on an old washing machine. Pierced right through the steel plating with the spike not dulling any. In the words of that guy from Forged In Fire, " It will kill."

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
Car was broken into last night.  Assholes didn't even take anything.  Why must you break my window if you're not even going to steal?  Now I'm out $255.  Insurance is such a ****ing scam.  Pay them tens of thousands of dollars over the years, and they can't even fork out $300 for a broken window.  Deductibles should be illegal.

The criminals went to town in my complex last night.  7 cars that I know of were broken into, probably more that I don't know about.  Seemed to be targeting gym/duffel bags.  Poor girl whose car was next to mine had all her clothes except the ones she was wearing stolen.  At least they didn't get her window though since the door was unlocked.  I was even awake when it must have happened.  I work back shift but was out sick.  Didn't hear anything.  Well tonight the windows are staying open and I'm staying dressed with my holster on.  I doubt they'd be stupid enough to come back the next night, but hey they were brave enough to stick around to hit multiple cars all over the complex.

I woke up at 5:00 PM today and went to sleep around 4:00 AM last night.  I keep waking up later and later every day, and I feel like my life is slipping away from me.  I don't know what to do.

3 sentences is by no means sufficient data with which to make a diagnosis, but... on a hunch, I would recommend human-to-human interactions in meat-space and a hard disconnect on things electronic for awhile.

I bought a one-handed arming sword about a month ago. Two weeks ago, I started training in German Longsword in Historical European Martial Arts, and I met someone who works for Volition! He's post-FreeSpace time, though.

I'm taking historical fencing classes in Urbana-Champaign, where Volition is headquartered.

Hey, any chance you can make swords and accept commissions?

Haven't made any swords as of yet. I don't think forging a sword would be too hard. The problem I would have is the heat treat. To get a good heat treat on a sword you would need a speciality oven to do it right or be a master at doing it with a hot iron bar. If the heat treat went bad on a sword used for fighting/sparring you would have the possibility of flying sharp steel. This is why if you go on a blacksmithing forum and say you want to forge swords you will get eat alive. I've been asked to make machetes and swords while demonstrating, and I have no pride at all in saying why I do not make them at this time.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
It's just generally crap quality.  Shortly before the warranty (of only one year) expired, I had to send it in.  Worst customer service experience I've ever had, they ultimately had it for a month.  It was never 100% right when I got it back, odd software errors here and there.  A few days ago a 2 ft fall from my bed onto carpet cracked the flimsy plastic case.  Now something has gone wrong with the power socket and it won't charge.  I last put it away with probably 30% battery, but it won't turn on at all now.  And since Lenovo decided they didn't want universal chargers undercutting their insanely overpriced 'genuine' replacements, they went to a proprietary power connector and I don't even have the option of checking just in case it's the cord and not the socket (doubtful but possible - the connector had another cheap plastic part chip off very shortly after getting it, but it was still functional until yesterday).  Looking at the socket, it looks like there's internals missing, but I never really looked at it when it was working to be sure it's different now.  Definitely WAY looser, but as of yet I haven't found any broken pieces lying around that would have fallen out if that is indeed the case.

1 year warranty on a $1100 laptop.  A month of which I didn't have it for VERY stupid customer service reasons.  This is really the main reason.  I bought this thing because the price was pretty good for the specs and it's pretty much the only one I've seen in the last 5 years that still has a trackpoint.  Not worth it.  Next one will be MSI or Asus or something like that.  Or I'll just go back to my almost 10 year old thinkpad that still works other than being pretty outdated specs wise.  Struggles with HD video and busy flash things.  Also still has XP loaded.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
I can confirm that Lenovo is crap.

My first Lenovo ntbk has broken wifi and its LAN port is in the process of breaking down, too. Soon it will end up in a notebook equivalent of a locked-in syndrome, lol. Its less than 3 years old.

My second Lenovo notebook constantly overheats and is very noisy, also is incapable of playing HD video or serious gaming because then reaches >100 degrees Celsius and shuts down. And no, there is no dust in it. Not to mention that HDD broke down and had to be replaced, and "K" key came loose. It is less than 2 years old.
