This Is The Way The World Ends
Okay folks, back to the end of the world.

What I have a terrible suspicion will be our last operational mission is to Salvador, Brazil, for a Bomb Disposal on a bridge. Rookies Redsniper and IronBeer join Rodo for the finale.



Those little things with the green lights, and the one next to Redsniper without lights, are bomb power nodes. Plasma bombs are kinda power-intensive, you see. You get up next to one with moves left and you can turn it off (at no cost in moves) and delay the big kablooie.


Like so.


Rodo, flanked but not shot at by the aliens, takes cover behind a taxi and then blows one away.


Redsniper gets the other. We move up, takng down more power nodes and generally keeping the clock at three turns.


A couple more Thin Men bar the way, but fortunately IronBeer has a Cunning PlanTM.


Grenade out!


The aliens respond with plasma fire, but do note that car one of them is hiding behind is burning. That's going to be important.


Right about...now. Scratch a Thin Man.


Rodo runs up and flanks the other, killing it a spray of automatic fire.


Two more. 3 turns on the clock. The big glowy thing is the bomb. We might pull this off. One alien takes cover there.

The other's over here.


It repositioned, giving Rodo a chance to move up for beside it, but no flank because of the centerline divider. Still did some good damage.


Shame about the retaliation. IronBeer just panicked, so I'm left with two turns and Redsniper to win the mission with.


Unfortunately, he missed. Then he got posioned.



Then he got dead.


Just a panicked IronBeer left. He took a shot but missed. The return did not.



Well ****.


The end of the month hit. We're broke. We have no more soldiers. Four more countries left. The project was shut down. The aliens conquered Earth. Whoopsie! In all honesty, as our last mission was a council mission rather than a UFO recovery or the like, it can be said we genuinely did manage to go out fighting. The hit on Rodo wasn't really the end, it was the failed panic check.

Ooof, shame about that. Not extremely surprising that it turned out that way, with only three soldiers against Thin Men, but still a good fight.

One thing though (unless they changed it): to disarm the power nodes, you don't actually need to have any movement left. You can spend both points to run up to one, re-select the soldier and power off the node. That fact saved my squad on one mission.

I'm just annoyed that I won't be able to see this played out in "real time" as it were, since I'll be going through Army BCT and AIT for the next, uh, 21 weeks or so.  Starting exactly one week from today.

EDIT: It doesn't because of a patch from December 11th. ****. If anyone's got a working way to rename the DLC soldiers I'm all ears.
