Unfortunately no, but god damn that song too
I've searched far and wide since too, nothing

Initially thought it was this
Because I thought the song had something to do with selfies, but then realized that the selfie song there is pretty hilarious

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
So I just got back from seeing Interstellar. I won't spoil anything significant, but here's what I have to say about it:

Stop reading and go see it.

You're still reading anyway?  Okay, so the film is pretty lengthy at a hair under 3 hours, but unlike most ~3hr films, it kept me (and most of the rest of the audience as far as I could tell) engaged throughout. I only looked at my watch once, compared to like, every 10 ****ing minutes during the Hobbit. (Sorry Peter Jackson, loved LOTR, but your Hobbit series is terrible. Oh wait, I'm talking about Interstellar.)

Common complaint, which I share: Whoever their sound mixer was ought to be fired. The soundtrack is way too loud, sometimes even making it a struggle to understand dialog.  Simply inexcusable.

Aside from the decibels, the soundtrack is good though. A repetitive ear-worm, but one that carries a lot of power and emotion, and I never got tired of it. The sound FX are nice as well, and I love their choice of NOT using them in vacuo. They not only properly render the vacuum of space as non sound-transmitting, but they even use it to great effect.

As for acting, Matthew McConaughey gave an outstanding performance and totally carried the film.  There is some cheesy dialog, mostly when explaining science (I feel that the Nolan brothers are consistently bad at non-intrusively explaining science or the rules by which their films work.)  And speaking of the science... some of it, including the premise, is utterly ridiculous and I could go on about how dumb it is for pages.

On the other hand, some aspects of the science were wonderful. I loved the wormhole/black hole physics (even though they are not entirely perfect), and the visuals of them are worth the admission price alone.  Also a good use of orbital mechanics and relativity, despite stretching them a bit. I won't go into details about the relativity -- you should just see it for yourself.

And the best thing, the thing that surprised me most: the story! It has flaws, but was nevertheless one of the most moving things I've seen in a pretty long while. I want to spoil the final act. I want to spoil it soooo hard.

So in a nutshell, Interstellar is far from perfect -- even maddeningly so in certain respects -- but nevertheless is ****ing amazing.
Go see this film.
In my world of sleepers, everything will be erased.
I'll be your religion, your only endless ideal.

So I also watched Interstellar

I also propose that this thread should be locked so that everyone would stop ****ing procrastrinating on the internet and go watch it already!

It's damn good! It's a hard sci fi flick with lots of human drama - astronauts, overcoming the elements, humanity at stake, relativity and time as a resource, a dad and his kids...

It's good.

Indeed - I don't think I've ever seen silence used as well as it is here. It does an amazing job of conveying emptiness, and tension when the scene calls for it. I also like how, several times, we got the reverse of the typical action-movie cut: a loud scene, full of movement or emotion, cutting immediately to complete silence, e.g. (trying to keep this spoiler-free but) watching messages, or the hatch explosion scene. The use of silence gave a great sense of finality to those scenes, which was very apropos considering (still trying to keep it spoiler-free but omgggg)

I found it excellent that the movie was definitely a sci-fi movie, full of wonder about the unknown and introspection into the human condition, rather than an action movie that happens to be about space (as is the case too often atm - looking at you, Abrams Trek).

I also liked that the monolith robots were complete inversions of the usual scifi robots/androids/synthetics. When I first saw one, I prepared myself for either the usual groan-worthy emotionless Cmdr. Data, or the usual "just following orders" AI betrayal, but the Interstellar robots were on completely equal terms with the crew and were the funniest characters on the show.

When Cooper docked with the spinning station I was convinced he was actually a Kerbal.

Anyway, 9/10 for me, definitely a must-see for scifi nerds.

It's not (much of) a spoiler! The robots are designed based on the 2001 monoliths. It's not actually very subtle at all, given the scene where [REDACTED]

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
Because this refers to what I'd call a pretty significant moment in the film:

Spoiler:
"When Cooper docked with the spinning station I was convinced he was actually a Kerbal."

OMG yes.

I actually tried something like that in Orbiter once -- ISS on a rapid spin (not >60rpm though... more like 10) on all three axes, while descending into atmosphere no less, and trying to dock with it using the delta glider.  FUUUUUCK that was hard -- most intense few minutes of concentration in my life.  And pulled it off, barely, just as aerodynamic effects were getting important.

Never again.

Common complaint, which I share: Whoever their sound mixer was ought to be fired. The soundtrack is way too loud, sometimes even making it a struggle to understand dialog.  Simply inexcusable.

This is an issue that is starting to crop up in a lot of movies these days.
E.g. The last batman movie (ignoring the muffled voice of bane) had the issue of sound mixing in general resulting in basically everybody being tough to hear of other sound/music or muffled voices.
Too many ideas.....not enough FREDing time!

This is true, I think that that may have been an issue with the sound working really well in the enviroment where the sound mixing was done and where it was tested (As dialog is via center speaker whilst music is via the left and right speakers IIRC), and the movie obviously aims for the music to play a very important part in several scenes. More dynamism there then in some classical concerts .

Go see this film.

Saw this post, got in the car, and I am posting this from the movi

----------

at this point the waitress arrived with my food and the lights dimmed a few seconds later. Now, after watching the movie, I have taken out my phone so I can say:
H-O-L-Y_C-R-A-P

wow

Interstellar is a beautiful movie. It's literally the essence of Sci-Fi: The amount of amazement, wonder, and thrill of being on the cutting edge of, well, everything is not to be underestimated. This is not just an action movie in space. In fact, the amount of action in this film is pretty negligible. But it doesn't matter, because you will be riveted in your seat the whole way through.

Now here come the [SPOILERS] and my massively stupid but somewhat plausible relation to Blue Planet

Alright, so at the end of the film, we have Cooper hijacking a shuttle-thing to go find Brand. Also, Cooper appears to be the only one who knows about Brand's existence. Also, we also see at the ending scene that Brand has set up camp, and will probably propagate the human DNA on that planet. Assuming that Cooper makes it through the wormhole, and that he is the only one who knows about Brand and the DNA, he and Brand could raise an entirely new human race, unnoticed by the rest of humanity.

So here's the BP part:
So they make a civilization, and hundreds (thousands) years later they venture out into space again and find the rest of humanity back in the solar system (see it yet?).
However, the two civilizations, having different memories as to the nature of the wormhole, do not agree (should be obvious by now...). So, they go to war over the morals and ideals of their cultures.
Then some hotshot woman named Naomi busts the bad guys and saves the galaxy.

On second thought, just ignore the above paragraph, cause I'm clearly too tired to be posting here.
