never trust any computer, any software, any hardware, any person, or anything else to back up your files. the only way to be sure is to manually copy them to somewhere else, preferably to a device that can be removed and put in a safe place, or in my case, to many devices in a bunch of slightly less than safe places.

I have to wonder why people still trust Adobe software to be anything more than a steaming pile of crap. Seriously. I remember dealing with Dreamweaver and Flash in an old crappy web class- it was horrible. Why anyone would use Adobe software for anything other than torture I don't know.

Always back up onto your own PC, an external drive, DVDs/CDs and a flash drive for the really critical/small stuff.

The file on my flash drive corrupted, the file on the backup server didn't do it's job, and the school only gives us 200 MB on our student directories (they only want us keeping word files there), and I didn't want to waste the precious time that wasn't being in school by doing schoolwork at home.

EDIT: Also, the teacher for the art half of the course refused to requisition anything other then Macs for this class, and he won on the basis that they were somehow cheaper (

). Now, that wouldn't be bad in and of itself, but I'm pretty sure Adobe and Apple go out of their way to make their products incompatible.

OK, OK, it's not exact but the parallels are quite astonishing.

So...... Mass Effect 2 up next. Been a while since I enjoyed a game this much. Very good writing and negligible bugs. Except that one where my crew always got trapped coming out of the Normandy's airlock. Hurr durr.

Replace "the Reapers" or "the Shivans" with "the Inhibitors from Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series of books" and it'll still work. An alien race periodically destroying everything remotely civilized is far from original. But still quite kool.

Or at least a bad copy. Did you see the teaser for ME3? I mean what for build a giant Mass relay when you can reach your destination without it in just a few years? That's kinda the biggest problem I see there. It makes the whole main-plot of the first game look somewhat redundant

IMO neither of those is correct. Like JeffVader said, they're the latest incarnation of a pretty standard SF theme, and they are executed very well IMO. Well, less so if my fears about ME2 (from the ME3 thread) are confirmed, but even then they're a well-done antagonist.

And haven't seen the ME3 trailer, haven't even played ME2 yet, so dunno about that. Although I think the signal to the Keepers and then to the Reapers themselves- remember, they're dormant- was more crucial than just the transportation itself.

Just got back from Chinese Broadsword, none of the other students turned up so hey private lesson for me. Anyway one of kids from the youth fencing classes had brought in this stop motion Lego video he had done for a competition. One of the instructors had it up running on their laptop. The subject he had recreated in Legos? Band of Brothers. He did the whole intro shot for shot and a bunch of segments of the show leading up to Carentan. It was pretty brilliant.

Was there a version of HLP for handheld devices somewhere? Right now the way this theme works all texted is smooshed into a ~10 character column on the right side of my screen and sig scroll bars work in a way that actually make sigs bigger.
