Oh christ... :banghead:

Um, is there a problem? It's a statue, so what?

I mean, we've got plenty of statues done by art students on my university campus, and they've got similarly fictional subject material (and some of it is nonsensical modern art stuff), and no one cares/complains/has an adverse reaction (Well, except to the modern art one, it's.. not good)

I'm not very religious but is that special kind of statue really necessary?

Don't worry nature has a way of rectifying the issue...

You could say that about any statue with any kind of fictional backgrounding.

To be quite frank, who honestly cares?

No, not really. But then again, is any statue really necessary? The people involved decided what they wanted to build and then built it. It's a 33 meter tall statue of a man that may or may not have lived. Let them have their fun.

These examples remind me on the great memorials built and planned in Berlin (sure there are bigger problems in the world but NOT RIGHT NOW :hopping: ) and that these (not pointless but) ugly constructions were built with taxes that could be spent so much better.

But when everyone is fine with a 5 ton golden crown or a giant golden seesaw (planned in Berlin) well then *klick*

Portal, Plants vs Zombies and Worms are how I got my girlfriend into casual-ish gaming.

Only difference is I don't think this thing was built with tax money. From what I had read, volunteers designed and built it while donations paid for materials. No harm; no foul.

And before anyone complains about how these donations should have gone towards ending world hunger, curing cancer, or one of a thousand other good causes, realize that these were donations specifically for the construction of this statue.

In other news, I'm going to see Fast #5 today. The cinema will probably be packed but oh well.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L I pity the fools that diss it.
I cooked up a pair of steak tips and made a garden salad for lunch.  Since the weather today is outstanding I sat out on the steps at the office and ate.  I was immensely entertained by the titanic clash of two American Goldfinches as they battled over the rights to the tree in front of the office.

It was hilariously awesome for couple reasons, namely the fact that they needed to balance the wrestling bits with staying airborne so the whole thing turned into this vertical affair where they slowly dropped out of the sky in fits and starts while they battled before needing to concentrate on attaining attitude to continue the dogfight.  Eventually they needed to take a 30 second breather to catch there breath where they sat huffing and puffing on a branch before continuing.  Additionally they where cursing the hell out of each other for whole time but being little birds it was just a torrent of musical chirps.

I'd call you a lucky bastard, but it sounds like you weren't lucky today. :(

Oh, and congrats to the Brits/Commonwealthers over the big wedding.  My mom was up at 5AM to watch.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L I pity the fools that diss it.
Day two spelled disaster for my German forces' hopes of seizing the table top for the purpose of growing hops, flax and hemp.  Initially my forces kicked off the battle by popping a few more T-34/76s, including a valiant stand by my immobilized Panther in the town.  Eventually the Soviet forces managed to kill the Panther and began advancing en masse towards my forces on the hill.  I broke off a pair of Panthers to lay in wait in the second village to fire into the flanks of the forces heading towards my hilltop.  Unfortunately the Soviets maintained the initiative for the majority of the late game and pummeled the hell out of my hill top position before I could effectively answer back.  With only a single survivor from my hilltop position and the flanking element in the town against a numerically superior Russian force I decided to withdraw my remaining three Panthers and concede the field.
